A Monument to Disruption? Moscow’s Mixed Feelings Towards Trump
Solovyov further elaborated on his views, stating that “Trump destroyed the trust” while simultaneously weakening the American
economy.
In a moment of sardonic humor, Solovyov remarked, “In reality, a monument should be erected to him,” adding, “This was a major blow to the system of capitalism.” He continued,”After the blow Trump delivered against the global
economy and global capitalist
economy,I think he deserves at least a Sutulov medal.”
The “Sutulov medal,” a Russian expression referencing a worthless award bestowed upon a servant by his master, highlights a prevailing theme in Russian state media: the perceived influence of Vladimir putin over Trump’s decisions. Every action by Trump that weakens the West and benefits Russia is often viewed through this lens.
Solovyov continued the satirical commentary, saying, “We have to award him something. A monument of him sitting on a horse or the title of an honorary economist—he has to get something.” He then addressed Trump directly, exclaiming, “To deliver this kind of a blow—well done, old man!”
Even as some of his most loyal defenders jump ship, there is at least on constituency President Donald Trump can count on for support — Russian state media.
