Values

"He's never going to be smiling when he's been sacked. However, the multi-million pound payoff may soften the blow. He'll survive. Tis big business now, not a family club."

I totally and utterly disagree with this.

a. the money is irrelevant compared to the frustration of having been given an opportunity and then to have that terminated in such an underhand way.

b. "big business" and being "a family club" are not mutually exclusive. To be a success does not mean that we have to sell our values. If we do, then we become the rags and when that happens I'm off - and I won't be the only one I'm sure.

Oh for Gods sake get a grip! I'd getting incredibly bored of people writing this crap about how Hughes should have been treated better. Can you please tell me how he should have been sacked whilst maintaining the values of a community orientated club.

Hurrah....

Technically he's cost our club millions by not being good enough at his job. How sorry should I feel for him?

Hang on, how are they meant to do it?

I am afraid it's their club and their money they are investing, they can do what they want, I was not a Hughes outer, however there is no easy way to do it, they thought he was not up to the job, and perhaps they were right, Hughes will have known this was going to happen all along

IMO, not doing it on a match day would be a start.

Show me a family orientated Premier League club and I'll show you a good PR department. It's big business now. We need to face up to that.

Hughes is like any under-performing executive. He was given the chance of a lifetime and fell well short and gets a new helicopter out of it. I'm struggling to feel that sympathetic.

Sorry but this thread is crap, if we had internet forums back way back when, would we have been upset when Joe Mercer went, how about Mel Machin, maybe Brian Horton would have drawn a tear or two, maybe Alan Ball, actually scratch that last one

agree, this isn't how we were told our new owners did business, and i aint being naive, i know it gets ugly but he should have been sacked on thursday

Yeah, that would have made him feel a whole lot better! Its about time we started acting professionally!

Its not about how he feels its abot how we do it. Youre the one who thinks we've done it professionally so tell me, what's professional about sending dead man walking out in front of 44,000 people and the worlds media who all know he has been sacked? As opposed to just sacking him on Thursday when the decision ha already been reached, if not before?

I felt the same when I saw Hughes waving to the crowd but in the cold light of day he wasnt good enough. There is no room for sentiment in the cut and thrust of premiership football. This is not a man who will be in hardship because of todays decision. To talk of some sort of value system in sport management is unrealistic. When hundreds of millions of pounds are being invested the owners obviously want results. Targets were set AND AGREED but were not met. Mark Hughes is a decent chap and that is what is difficult, however a decent chap does not always bring success. Good look Mark. Good look Rob.

cmon, it was better than sven's send off.

always makes me wonder, are you saying that peter swales never did anything ruthless, or just plain mean and stupid? there has always been politics and backstabbing at this club as far as I am aware. such is life.

Thats silly. He obviously knew. Proved by the way he waved at the end. He didnt have to. Maybe he wanted to.
