Would you want VAR scrapped?

What they need to do is agree specific protocols for events such as if they are checking a goal as in rugby the referee states "Is there any reason not to award a try the onfield decision is try" then all that has to happen is they check and say we agree with your decision or disagree. They show the ref what they are looking at if they disagree and then the ref and VAR and linesmen discuss it as they are looking at the footage and then the referee makes the decision. The crowd hear and see the footage so buy into why the decision is made I dont know why cant football do something the same
Apparently IFAB don't think referees are up to communicating in a professional manner so it would get fucked up. The thing is professional refs should erm be professional. The audio of the Liverpool fuck up kind of emphasises just how shite and unprofessional the refs are compared to pretty much every other sport on the planet. For me the biggest issue is VAR and refs being from the same group so automatic backing up of the onfield decision because they don't want to be overruled or advised to check monitor the following week.

You can, at least, have consistency of process even if the decisions themselves are subjective.

Agree this is the crux of it. We’re never going to agree on everything but we need to know the criteria, ala:

> Is there contact?
> Are there multiple points of contact?
> Is the contact of sufficient force?
> Does attacker or defender initiate contact?

Maybe the referee thinks the defender initiated contact and we think the attacker did… that can happen… but we need to hear him say that out loud to understand the basis of the decision. Without that it feels like different referees just guessing. They probably aren’t, they are trained after all… but it baffles me that this isn’t the way it was done from the start. It does nothing to dispel the idea that they fear transparency.

I don't really disagree with you. I’d love VAR to get referees to look at the monitor more for all big, subjective decisions, without telling them they are wrong. I believe that if the ref had rewatched that penalty, he’d have changed his decision.

Clear and obvious can hide behind the bar being moved higher or lower and also just verifying their mate’s decision.
Yeah that would be great, watching some bloke watching a telly. Should go the whole hog and have celebrity ref's like gogglebox

And it's a shit one, same with cricket.
In both those sports players spend lots of time doing nothing.
Fair enough. It would seem most would welcome elements from other sports’ usage of VAR to enhance the footballing version.

I don’t think many are advocating for VAR to judge a penalty decision and awarding a try.

I can’t. Well actually I can, but only due to the incompetence of the people involved. If VAR is not correcting that on-field decision then there really is no point in it.
They’re scared to re-referee. That needs to end. If we’re forensically looking at decisions, then the referee should look at contentious decisions again, rather than the VAR being their to corroborate their mate’s decision if at all possible.

Funny how var has become the worst thing ever, after several "controversial" against the red shirt clubs, yet nobody batted an eyelid when it was us getting the wrong end of the shitty stick, (or wolves etc).
It’s not boosted our thread here as much though.

Its almost as if VAR is shit when it’s against your club, but great when it affects others.

It was the same when it wasn’t around with referees.

I'm not commenting on the actual decisions, as I genuinely don't watch any of these teams unless they're playing us, but I keep hearing from the media how bad it's become, I've seen us get some pretty shit decisions, but the media never tell the world how bad they are.

Fuck 'em.

You've got better discussion about you than hanging around this thread, mate. I love you to bits but fuck me, this one is done, nothing new is going to come of it so put your love of city and grasp of the real world to better use than replying to this thread.

(no, I'm not telling you what to do, even if I was I know you wouldn't give a fuck..) I just don't think there's anything new going to be put across and you're better than repeating yourself over and over x

VAR has fuck ups every week, but only 3 teams cry like fuck if that fuck up is against them
typical red shirt behaviour

when a contentious decision gets given for you then its fine, when its given against you then refs or these days var is shit and it was ever thus.

The only thing i would say with regards to var is that it has stopped the big clubs getting ALL the 50/50 or even 70/30 decisions in their favour.
