I'm basing it on the commentators. I believe they have a feed of the VAR discussion, but despite this, they had no idea that the referee had given a handball. With the very kindest reading of events, this means that despite that Liverpool fuck up a while ago, they still aren't being clear in their communication about what the original decision was and what they are asking to be checked. Why is the referee not explicitly stating that he's disallowed the goal and the reason why at the start of the conversation?
 
I have to assume that there was some kind of miscommunication between the var and the referee. It's quite clear that Haaland doesn't handle the ball, it's clear that the spurs player does, there's no reason to not give the goal or recommend a review.

Luckily it didn't cost us but that was just unbelievable. You can lead an official to a literal slo mo video of the evidence, but you can't expect him to look at it and relay the correct decision based on what he is watching, evidently.

Who is that presenter on TNT though? She's just told us we're off to hear Ange's pre-match thoughts. Are we going again? Wouldn't put it past the var right now....

Yep. Remember the Liverpool game where they disallowed a goal because the ref thought they were checking one thing and the VAR thought they were checking something else? We were told they would improve their communication after that.
 
Doesn't Gilet work on the VAR side more than he is the official match referee? If so he should be better than most communicating with VAR.

"I gave handball against Haaland. Do you see a handball Graham?"

"It's hard to see Jarred. Oh yes it hits a hand... but it's a Spurs players hand"

What's the ref thinking now?
 
Refs should explain their decision on stadium PA then if a VAR is ongoing at the end they state that decision

They told us that VAR was introduced to get decisions correct yet there are numerous examples of getting it wrong hidden behind bullshit reasons

That’s it if it’s not a goal, it has to be a fucking pen. How a ref can watch that for 5 minutes and say free kick spurs is beyond a fucking joke.

Is there a reason they don’t just allow the refs to be miked up?! I suspect there is but they don’t want us to know that either!

This last couple of weeks has been a farce regards VAR. The time taken, the incorrect decisions and just the plain incompetence.

Tonight was an absolute joke.

And besides VAR, how on earth has the ref disallowed it. He’s clearly guessed, at best!
 
It's a farce at times like tonight but the game is basically an empty shell of the game it should be when a goal like that gets disallowed.

Haaland did brilliantly, that's a great strikers goal.

The only evidence was that the ball hit one spurs defender on the upper arm/shoulder area, and hit another on the hand.

I think its because VAR thought it was a goal and they were confirming it. It's why they even checked for offside at the end. Why would you do that if its irrelevant for disallowed goals? It's a massive communication issue.

And the guy with the hand out like Oliver cunting twist wasn’t in a natural position so only options were pen or goal.

They did mention it a while back and the argument is that they'll need to be media trained first. Given that they already struggle with basic communication, it might be a long road ahead.

But I think it's inevitable in the end, if not in the stadium itself, certainly for TV.
 
So in the space of a week we've had a penalty not given against Real Madrid, an offside Liverpool goal allowed to stand and now a goal against Spurs wrongly chalked off, and that's just in City games so the United v Everton debacle doesn't come into it.
I'm so glad the percentage of correct decisions is going up and we're getting these mm offside goals disallowed though, the games certainly much better now.

And Ange said in his interview I don't knkw why the decision took so long, the referee disallowed it so if they couldn't see he had made an error they should have said that and got on with the gsme instead of having us standing around. Hes taking the piss the scruffy miserable never stops looking at the floor in an interview scruffy miserable fucker.

That 'handball' was another example of bullshit interpretation of the clear and obvious ruling, although I don't think anyone saw the referee actually award, or more importantly disallow the goal on field. As far as I see it, the referee gave NO decision, so how can they say he didn't make a C&O error when he didn't make any decision?

He blew his whistle for sure, about 3 secs after. He didn't appear to point his arm. I think he was a bit confused. Thereafter, the stupid VAR regime kicks in. In a saner world the ball goals in and the ref does a TV signal and goes to the monitor to check what happened and make a decent call. That would be great VAR. It's a million miles from the shite we have.

Don't get me started on the Doku "offside" too
