VAR Discussion Thread | 2024/25

Because the authorities wanted them to get it wrong.
Against any other team the keeper is getting red carded.

100%

Until somebody at City stands up and says to the Premier League and the match officials, NO MORE
turning a blind eye to major game-changing incidents because it's political between Manchester City and the Governing Bodies is CHEATING.

Knowing you are making the wrong call is cheating or being asked to make the wrong call is cheating

So the only ones who don’t think it was a red card are the officials and VAR on the day, everyone else who’s not a dick says it’s a red, even Palace fans, this not about been bitter this is about incompetence, all in the VAR booth should be immediately suspended and an investigation opened. If I was City I’d come out and say this maybe corrupt, they’ve come at us with the 115 and also we challenged and won over other issues, has someone had a word with them because every fucking angle shows the keeper hand balling it, it’s nit even up for debate, why didn’t they tell the ref to go look at the screen? If he couldn’t see it from his position then he can on the screen. As pointed out it’s nit just us who have possibly lost from this had we won other teams would be in Europe now! City must not let this go.

We all know there’s bias in football, Fergie Time and all the rest, refs being intimidated by the occasion, it’s been statistically proven, & there has been agendas against City, in the media, currently at the Premier League (115) at rival clubs & fanbases.

There’s been a huge media build up around Palace not winning any trophies in their existence, & everyone rooting for Palace, against Nation State Oil FC…
cue Haaland through on goal, about to get his foot to the ball at the edge of the area slightly right of the D, round the keeper & slot it in an open net, Henderson clearly out of his area handballs it.
Red card all day, ref & VAR bottle it, subconsciously, or not, the ref does not want to be held responsible for Palace losing the FA Cup, & have that on his conscience, so they fudge some lame excuse, like “going away from goal” ( clearly Haaland was not)
Nevermind eh, City have won enough, let someone else have ago…

maybe they are getting text messages to say how its spinning? sounds far fetched but they put out a release soon after the incident on Saturday explaining why the red card wasnt given (factually incorrect but not corrected), obviously that's from someone outside the three PIGMOB officials hence the channels must be there. what we need is full transparency and to hear these clandestine conversations that the TV companies are privy to.

If you believe Howard Webb, which I’m aware many won’t, the Premier League has been lobbying FIFA for some time for them to lift their ban on live comms being broadcast.

When that happens, and it’s inevitable it will sooner or later, I can’t see any reason why they couldn’t make the VAR feed that TV currently hear, available to punters.

VAR finally lost the minimal credibility it had! The FA got what they wanted.............Wouldn't have suited their 'agenda' to have a club they are in conflict with win their Cup. Just like when MCFC won the PL and Masters didn't show up to present the trophy!

I disagree, the whole reason the whole world has VAR is because the constant wrong decisions from the officials, I can't blame them - how tight the margins are at times, the pace of the game, the constant cheating, the crowd biase etc, it's a very tough job.
We had a few weekends without VAR this season in the cup and the officials missed big howlers.
So same as any weekend with it then!!

No mate, I can’t prove that something didn’t happen. That would be impossible.

What I can do is consider the likelihood that it happened.

It is an absolute fundamental FIFA instruction that there must be no outside interference in the VAR booth.

To routinely have English VARs ignoring that rule would take a conspiracy involving pretty much everybody in the upper echelons of power within the various organisations of English football. The hundreds, if not thousands of people who are aware of it going on, would be sworn to secrecy. One person breaking ranks would risk every one of their livelihoods and probably their chance of them ever working in football again.

But they’re all prepared to take that risk because they are so desperate for the VARs to hear Gary Neville’s take on an incident before they make a decision?

I’d say the chances of that are so slim, it’s as close to zero as you can get.
English VAR operates a different protocol so I wouldn’t rule anything out tbh

Nope, it highlights how much the officials miss and get wrong , it’s correcting far more incorrect calls then it does the odd howler, we’re just used to VAR now giving the correct onsides/offside decisions, palace goal would have stood without VAR - it’s pretty obvious the lino that missed the handball would have missed that also

Fully agree, City should’ve said at 1/2 time he either gets a red or we ain’t coming back out!
As they didn’t they should now be seeking legal recourse and making as much noise as possible, it’s very frustrating as a fan to watch our club keep being shafted.
Call the wankers out please, enough is enough after Saturday.

This corrupt handball decision, all quiet! Why? Because as a club, we made NOTHING OUT OF IT!

Certain clubs’ managers would have been going on about it non-stop just after the game, hours after the game, days after the game, until they got what they wanted!

What have we got to lose ? Take the players off, stop the game, make a statement, enough is enough

We all could see it was clearly handball outside the box, replays show it's a good yard outside the box
Make the right call at a very important moment of the game, VAR stops the game, so we don't start until the right call is made, Pep and the City coaches had a replay on a monitor in the dugout, Go fucking mental wave the arms shout call out the referee just walk onto the pitch and make them understand they have fucked up.

The palace physio just ran onto the pitch without the referee allowing him to come on, The City bench went mental and kick-off and nothing was done

Mate you talk utter bollocks. Every week we discuss the huge failings of VAR. Every week. What’s more those errors/failings are inexplicable in the case of Saturday. I’d rather a few honest mistakes were made by linesman and refs as they were for decades than the facade that is VAR and the ability it gives to control outcomes. Llorente handball goal against us in CL, Rashford offside, Saturday, to name 3 inexcusable errors in VAR era. If they’re given cos a ref couldn’t see etc so be it, to have them seen and the mistake still exist is a joke.

The lino doesn't even need to be in line with the 18-yard box to see the handball. Henderson's foot is half over the line and his hand is way out in front of him. The fucking ref should have given it himself but he's refereeing the game differently because he knows he's go the 'safety net' of VAR to bail him out (or not in this case).

I find the whataboutery and gaslighting around this decision from the media and certain posters on here truly baffling.

I don't really disagree however lets try not to paint VAR as something i love and something i have ever said would be flawless, its far from the truth. I can only repeat for the millionth time i prefer to have VAR so officials can get a second look. ideal world with the benefit of a replay they get the correct decision, vast majority of the time they do.
The problem is every time there's a controversial incident i get tagged in for my view on it and when i agree most often, like Henderson should have been sent off - i still get 'you talk bollocks' and anger thrown at me, so whats the point?
despite its flaws, despite knowing they'll get it wrong at times even with a replay i will always be for it. Refs need tech help simple as that in my opinion.
I won't bother replying now when asked my view on every future incident (which there always will be) as its pointless and i get a ton of abuse thrown at what i consider my balanced views. over and out.

Ref doesn’t want to ruin Palace’s day but it’s Ok to ruin City’s.
It’s bollocks, demand a replay with them starting with 10 men!

With the help of VAR there shouldn’t be any howlers should there. Unless it is controlled.
City & whoever misses out on Europe should be suing for compensation, it’s what the media keep stirring up for City and the 115 facade, so why not have our go back.
The more you see it the non red for Henderson the more disgraceful it becomes.
We should start a petition, more than 100k signatures and it gets debated in Parliament.

Oh look, Lino flags offside when young Brighton lad scores a last minute winner against Liverpool - that would have been denied. Once again VAR correct to overturn but that won’t be mentioned.
Fans celebrating madly after that review.

Thought you weren’t replying. How can you defend a system that is only sometimes right which exists to replace a systems that is sometimes wrong? The tightness of the call compared to the easiness of the handball decision shows you that VAR is a joke. Get that offside right (semi-automated) less human reliance but get a blatantly obvious one wrong. That tells you how unreliable and shite it is so how is it improving the game mate? It decided where a trophy went Saturday.
