VAR Discussion Thread

VAR isn't the problem it's the smackheads using it.
VAR is exactly the problem. Doesn't matter who runs it, it is too intrusive.

It's undoubtedly useful, but not in this microscopic way they're using it.

Collina and his ideas about teams being able to make 2 VAR calls per game sounds a lot better.

Haaland was denied a goal once. Ref gave handball so disallowed goal. VAR checked said no definitive image he handled so was about to tell Ref to go to monitor. But asst VAR said means no definitive image that he didn't handball it so onfield decision stands.
At Burnley Ref gave a goal and there was no clear definitive image he handled it but VAR said he handled it so disallowed goal. Took VAR 5 mins 30 secs to decide clearly 100% handled it to reverse Ref onfield decision.... Just not credible

Two stonewall penalties denied today for Chelsea.
No surprise with Arsenals biggest cheerleader Darren England yet again involved in a game that features them or us.
Pn Var for Spurs v Arsenal when he didn't overturn the Spurs goal that was ruled out and hey look, very next game he has Arsenal again.
And hey, we have the cheat yet again v Forest

It's so obvious the PL have backed Arsenal this year due to a different winner being good for the brand.
If we did what Arsenal do at set pieces, half of the goals would be ruled out and I am sure there would now already be a new law brought in for them

About time players started getting lengthy bans for simulation … timber free kick was a disgrace

10 game ban for blatant simulation

And for fuck sake stop this nfl style pinning of players at corners

Arsenal are about nfl tactics and they are allowed to it’s a total farce
10 game ban?! Won’t even warrant a mention in the media is my bet. We get called cheats by every set of fans we encounter yet the likes of arse are allowed to dive and foul with relative impunity. It would feel really special if we overcome this lot this season but VAR will not make it easy that’s for sure.

I’d just go back to first principles. It was a tool to help refs make better decisions. Use it that way. Not on corners or bookings or throw ins and workout. Red cards goals and offsides. No lines. No slow mo. No VAR officials making recommendations. Just a screen and a mic to broadcast what has been decided.

That red card and penalty for United was as soft as they come

When they get inside the box there’s definitely not enough contact on him to make him go over

He’s had some luck Carrick

How can a player's arm be offside? The equipment is not even 100 per cent accurate because of the way it captures the moment when the ball is played. No allowance is made for the frame speed.

I find it very strange given the laws of physics that a player pulled back then gets into the pen area & dramatically falls forward?? & dramitical is the understatement of the season

When I was still an active ref the offside law stated only parts of the body that you can score with should be considered for offside. Doesn't seem to be the case nowadays.

I can't understand why the referees are not taking control of matches any more. That Burnley offside was ridiculous. The margin of error in the technology is not being allowed for. And why are players beng allowed to foul at corners. Yesterday Gabriel climbed all over a Chelsea defender pushing him head down while another Chelsea defender was pinned back by his arms by another Arsenal player. This would have been penalised anywhere else. The VAR officials are controlling matches. Everyone on here predicted Howard Webb would be a disaster as PGMOL chief but I have been amazed at how incompetent he has been. English football has gone backwards with brute strength dominating over skill like Rugby.
