Veganism

The definition of "necessary" i feel is open to personal interpretation here.

Humans started to take root and farm animals it was the greatest time of advancement in our species time. This was due solely to us having more time to contemplate and not forage, hunt and gather. With that i suggest we are regressing into allegory and personal standards of being, what constitutes humanity etc. We are here now because we "won the race" and the rest could be considered the spoils of war, after all we are a warring species to!

There is no plan or path from here but what we make of it is my opinion. We should take care of our planet more than we do a lot more than we do already though.

If a cow has felt grass under the hoof and enjoyed a nice life then one day poof it is just lights out, i can deal with that. Any suffering though is not something i would ever support regarding animals. We have a duty to them all as the dominant species with all the tools at our disposal, our brain being the main one. We seem to not engage it on global issues though to any extent as it does not make money.

I get that a native Chinese person may look at my dog as food, i get that. Just as i get cows are sacred to Hindu's. I just think if they tried to eat my dog i'd carve their heart out with a chainsaw. People hold different values and i respect that in life, not much more to say really.

Well, yeah. We in the rich part of the world, where there are spices, fruits and veg on demand have 0 excuse.. But those who inhabit a scarce land, can be said to be given a pass.

I don't care how we got here. That is not an argument against veganism.

So we have a duty.. so you admit we are complicit. So when there is a zillion other things to eat you still think stabbing cows to death is ok, cos it felt fucking grass under hoof..

People hold different values that's true. There is a spectrum of smart to thick within us. You are arguing for the thick, but I know you're smart.

aren't we so glad you're the moral arbiter.

Oh I'm so moral! I don't pay people to slash cow's throats! I don't pay people to chuck chicks into a grinder!

Now I know we don't agree on this subject and I respect your conviction and your choice.

but I have a serious question, how do you stand on dog owners who castrate their dogs and then stick lamp shades on their heads?

I even though I have no issue with eating meat as long as it is humanely killed (yes we disagree if that's possible), I find mutilating an animal to suit someones needs cruel.

I think the whole idea of 'pet ownership' is problematic. Especially if we purchasing animals. If we interact with animals, it should be to help them. Some people castrate their dogs for their own convenience. Others might understand that it's a bad thing for a dog to be able to procreate fullstop.. because of the pain and suffering many pups will endure before they die. I think this distinction is important. I'd prefer all contraception to be as uninvasive as possible.

Nature is not cruel and nasty. It lacks the capacity, as in :
Wind "I think i'll be nasty today and blow some trees over"
Lion " Cor, look at the meat on that eland"
Nope, it's just how it works.

Sounds nihilistic.

Intelligent moral agents (us) can see bad and good. Our intelligence makes us complicit. The lion and the wind are amoral. That's how it works now.

What about Dolphins and whales?

considered possibly as inteligent as humans, but dolphins in particular, engage in torture and killing.

Or are you saying because we are the dominant species and can reason, we should choose not to do what has been part of our nature and evolution, just because we can choose to for moral purposes.

Unfortunately we have never been a species primed for that, as centuries of humanity has shown, we are a viscious predetor.

Dolphins and whales are intelligent, but mostly in that horrid Darwinian sense.. (How best can I devour my prey) Evolution selected for selfish organisms.

I am indeed saying that because we reason, and understand goods and bads, that we should not create needless bads.

I agree again. We are not primed for that, but we disgrace our intelligence if we pretend to be a 'dumb' animal.
