Veira - Whats The Point

the last 20 minutes of last week's derby is the point. As much as I like De Jong etc, there's no doubt that our midfield when under pressure, can't keep the ball. They drop into the back four and there's no-one to give it to when we win it - hence the 40 yard punts and it coming straight back.
One thing this City squad is missing is the experience of winning trophies. That's invaluable

But a few question marks:

a) Will he be fit to play?
b) Is he good enough? Watched Italian game on ESPN yesterday, and the standard was poor. They still have players like Del Piero and Totti playing at half-pace, and Vieira stru teamggled to get in the Inter

Not much to lose. We're short of an attacking midfielder and Vieira isn't that type of player any more. I don't think he is anyway. Still it will be exciting to see him play whenever that is

Viera isn't here for his work on the pitch he is primarily here for his work off it. Mancini knows what he's about and he is a winner. That is why he is here plus he will add invaluable experience to the youngsters.

I agree, he has a winning mentality, he knows how to win and that can be invaluable.
Added to the fact De Jong and Barry both know here is serious competition for their place now means they know only 100% will do (for the record it's Barry possibly in the most danger I feel)

he's on 25k basic, the rest is in add ons. i know what you mean though.

from Daily Star Sunday when he was signed:

PATRICK VIEIRA is on £25,000 a week at Man City - NOT £150k as has been claimed. But the former Arsenal superstar, who joined from Inter Milan, could earn up to £75,000 a week if he's playing on a regular basis and if Mancini's men are still riding high in the top four.

I am amazed at the hint that Barry and NDJ might not have been putting in 100% before Vieira arrived but now will do because of competition for places.

If PV covers half as much ground as either of them i'll be very surprised. And this 'winning mentality' psycho-babble is only any good when a players legs can still do what his brain wants 'em too.

Bobby knows much more about Vieira's fitness than i do and i can only trust his judgement as i've seen Paddy play twice in the last couple of seasons (and BM has obviously forgot more about footy than i've ever known)

Think you were watching through Premiership tinted glasses there mate.

Not saying the Italian league is all fantastic, but the Premiership this year is certainly very poor itself. Far too much huff and puff and a distinct lack of class in the English league at the moment.

The top 4 have dropped back a bit, but Spurs, Villa and City have improved.

Let's see how far Arsenal, Utd and Chelsea get in the Champions League

If we have two players in every position like Barca have at least in the midfield then
we will probably end up in champions leauge.
system 4-5-1 Ten midfielders:::: counting , SWP Zab DEJONG Barry Ireland Bellamy
Vieira Kompany Petrov That was nine, the last one comes in the final days of the
window !!
