... Versus...

Aretha is my favourite all-time female vocalist, nobody else gets close. But I do prefer S&G's original, it just feels better to me.

Where do people stand on Mr Bojangles? For me Nina Simone's version knocks every other version for six.

Best voice ever, I wake up to Aretha every morning, puts me in a right good mood

Nah ... as regards the voice , Whitney Houston , at the top of her game , was better

and Simon and Garfunkels version of that song is definetely better!

I wonder how many times Aretha performed that song? I don't believe she ever recorded it, but Google can clarify that.

Kinda comes across as a bit of a one off.

Now S&G, they pushed that turd for years before it was given a high sheen in the studio.

This might sound odd, but to me Aretha's version sounds real, sincere, authentic.

Fucking hell, are you her publicist? Her version was fucking shite, just sounded like a run of the mill gospel song. In fact I'd go as far as saying she ruined it.

S&G version is the dogs dangleys.

Course she recorded it, I've got Aretha's version on CD on 2 different albums, which I've had for over 15 years.

Well there you go. She did record it. Is the recorded version better than the live track in OP?

Now here's a cover that's better than the original, I love Dylan but Hendrix smacked this Dylan tune in the face and made it his woman.

Actually, I prefer the Prince Buster version, and Roberta Flack did it justice.

Well i'd agree with you 'Garrincha' ...

as much as i respect Al Greens soulful voice , for me the Bee Gees have been one of the greatest acts ever , and their version of this brilliant song is difficult to equal .... but then again most of their songs have been!
