I think one of the things Vicky Kloss has be conscious of always is the long term effect that some short term publicity can have both for good and ill.
I have little doubt that the long term game plan is to get the media, if possible, eating out of our hand the way they currently do for the rags. An awful lot of what she lets go by without robustly challenging is done, I think, with this in mind, because being bolshy and argumentative every time there is a media story cures a short term headache but creates a long term enemy. If Vicky wielded the banhammer like the mods on here do (sorry guys ;)) that I think would jeopardise that long term strategy.
Personally, my view is that the spikes we have at the top of the 8 pillars which suspend the roof would make useful resting places for some heads. Ashton, Beasley, Custis, etc etc, but in the long term we need the media on side and beheadings do not help that cause.
Forgive the slight tangent, but when the pisscan finally goes there is going to be one almighty outpouring aimed at the rags. Whoever picks up the baton when he passes it on has got one almighty poisoned chalice (sorry, mixed metaphor there) because there will be a quarter of a century of slights insults and unremitting thuggery which stands to be avenged.
Back on topic, there are some issues where the media goes too far (eg Rob Beasley saying Mancini was int he ground when Hughes was axed) even with this 'softly softly' approach in mind. So the club acts, and will (if I understand it correctly) continue to act in appropriate cases, even though it lets go as much as it probably can let go. Of course it fucks me off mightily that there is so muich shite in the media that we don't challenge. But on the whole I think Vicky gets the balance about right.
The problem is, Vicky can hardly come on here and say 'Custis is a c@nt but I need him on side', so the thought process is probably not explained as clearly as it could be. But as I say, I'm pretty sure that when we turn the other cheek, it is because we have a longer term game plan in mind.
Our owners do Big Picture. We should learn to do it, too.
