I just can't see Gykoeres after making a name for himself be content to be in the shadow of Erling, no matter how much we might plan on going to two strikers, we have already seen with Alvarez that those kind of promises doesn't work. There is loads of top clubs out there that can pay, and also make Gykoeres their main man and project player. And I don't see us putting up that kind of fee to put us in that position when we have so many other positions to look at

I wouldn't even be totally convinced as a potential Haaland replacement yet, but that would make more sense

I think there’s the argument he needs competition. He had Alvarez push him last year and if he couldn’t play we had a great back up waiting. We tried to fit Alvarez in the team in other positions but didn’t really work and we are so lucky we also have players like KDB and Foden that meant still Alvarez didn’t always play as 10 or out wide. Even now with Ortega and Eddie we have great competition. I hope we sign someone and if we have to choose between one again we choose Haaland.

I get that, but how many teams on the planet have two world-class strikers on their books in rotation? Proper number 9s have only just started to come back after several years of almost extinction in top teams, there is loads of top teams out there that is looking for one. That is why I can't see Gykoeres choosing to go the team where his competition to get minutes and goals is the best striker in the world. And equally I can't see us going for the hottest property on the market to provide that competion, when we have several other position to strengthen.

Don't get me wrong, I'd like Gykoeres but it is the kind of signing you make when your team is perfect and you can convince him there is a system that will suit. Now we need to fix our midfield and defence, maybe even our goalkeeper and only then can we start looking at someone that can be a understudy to Haaland. Preferably someone flexible enough to play out wide or deeper as well as being comfortable occupying defenders in the middle

I would be in favour of a deal like this. At present, given the situation in midfield, we have no real alternative to Erling. I imagined, coming into the season that the alternative would be a false nine, and I certainly was unconcerned by Alvarez leaving. The injury to Oscar, and the sporadic appearances of Kev and Phil, made that less than a given. An alternative striking option to Erling protects him, challenges him, and offers other options, including two strikers: it is clear that defensive setups to nullify Erling have become normalised, and that's not so easy when there is somebody else capable of similar.

Would prefer someone like Cunha who can play across the front line. Can Gyokeres do that? He seems more like a Halland type from the limited I've seen.

I'd normally be all for whoever the club target in the transfer market, Personally I think this guy is a donkey, I don't really care how many goals he's scored in the Portuguese League, It's an abysmal league.

I think he's an absolute donkey and I hope the Rags spunk millions on him.
