Villa Park 1981

I was 11 years old and in the seats with my Dad. The journey down was amazing as the motorway was jammed with cars flying City colours.

After our goal, there was a chorus of "You'll never walk alone" and the whole City side of the Holote End seemed to turn solid blue with scarves. I was blown away. This photo may well actually be that moment.

There's a better crowd shot of that day in Gary James's latest book. It's a real close up.

Interestingly, at 11, I thought it would always be like that. I had no inclination that 30 years later it still hasn't got any better.

Thanks for that. That brought a tear to the eye. Not seen that clip since god knows when.

Thanks for posting that clip, I was in the Holte end, 25 at the time and what a great day that was. Funny how time fades memories, I didn't recall it was extra time and didn't remember the free kicked was touched to PP first.

I remember the celebrations though!

Paul Power, yet another CITY legend, always gave 110% for the club.

Lets hope days like that are just around the corner again.

I was there too that day ....... right at the fuckin' back of that stand ..... i almost lost me trousers too as that goal went in , as the bloke next to me jumped up in the air in delight and landed on the bottom of my trailing jeans leg , he then proceeded to give me a big kiss!

Fantastic day that was ..... definetely in my top five days of supporting City since the late sixties!

And it has to be said what a fantastic side Ipswich were too at that time ..... they were argueably the best side in the country in the late seventies/early eighties.

We were playing one of the best Teams in the league at the time and Ipswich were massive favourites to win.
Standing near the back of that Holte End will always be one of my greatest City memories and the free kick by Paul Power was absolutely fookin brilliant.
As somebdy else said, that last 10 minutes felt like an eternity.
Hopefully now looking for more of these fantastic days out.
For me its NOW shit playing the two semi`s at Wembley and it should revert back to a proper PL neutral ground.
Thanks to those fucking money grabbing FA old farts !!!!

What I remember is they were absolutely all over us for the first half hour or so. I've still got a little freezeframe memory of Alan Brazil missing a sitter and my Dad gasping with amazement.

Did this really happen, by the way?

I too was in the holt end. I think the picture was taken at the start of extra time when we were all singing "walk on".

iirc
the holte end was split down the middle, we had half each
i don't remember any problems about numbers of tickets

great day that
spent the night in the vale cottage gorton celebrating when we got back

Interesting that.... so did I! Had a couple of beers first in the Waggon and Horses, followed by the Bulls Head on Reddish Lane then to the Vale. In those days, the place was run by Ronnie Almond who was a rag, which made a trip to the Vale a must.
