I cannot think of any team competing in sports on an international stage that are organised based on religion. The subject of this ban are ISRAELI fans of an ISRAELI football team. I don’t think you can ignore it. Especially after the horrific attacks recently and all the associated hate towards Jewish people.

That’s one of the main fears police have - more attacks, more antisemitism. Being from Isreal and supporting and Israeli football club shouldn’t mean a threat of violence.

I think it may have had nothing to do with Maccabi supporters inside the stadium, but of possible demonstrations by pro Palestinian groups turning up outside the ground en masse (or even inside too) and the potential for major disorder while 30,000 plus Villa fans are converging into the area too.

One question to ask is why are Russia and their clubs banned from European games but Israel and their clubs are not?
