Villa v Maccabi Tel Aviv - away fans banned | MTA confirm they will refuse any allocation for safety reasons (p26)

It's not Villa who made the decision anyway.
Villa fans seem to be OK with them being allowed to support their team, locals who don’t go to games decided they aren’t allowed in based on imported middle eastern sectarian religious hatred. Lets hope they don’t ban Spurs fans next

Their last European away game was on 24th September against PAOK, why has it taken nearly a month for Villa to ban them?

Also where did you find out about them smashing Thessaloniki up. There is no mention of it online.

I'm surprised that the Greeks let them smash the place up! They are normally fanatical and intimidating!
Did I say the last game, no. They have a history of violence across Europe, but according to you they were well behaved last month so clearly they are a changed club.

Why does Villa or the police need to do it the day after their last game?

You know full well it’s the events in Amsterdam etc which is fuelling this.

Okay, I have to chime in because the headline is incredibly misleading. The derby was stopped and cancelled because the opponent's fans, Hapoel tel aviv's fans, threw fireworks and other pyrotechnics onto the pitch, injuring a number of police officers. After the game was cancelled, the Israeli police did what it always does, which is to engage in egregious police brutality against women and children just trying to go back home, frustrated after having been robbed of a game because of 10 assholes.

I know people want to fit anything for an agenda, but I don't see at all how any of this is related to the villa game. I don't know about you, but I have been to this derby many a time on the hapoel side and it's ALWAYS the police who escalates any situation and causes these so called "riots", so I wouldn't exactly take their side of the story.

I'd rather people like this, from any country, were banned.

There is a big spoonful of double standards when it comes to this but I won't go into that and stay on topic. Ultimately a set of footballing fans should not be banned to a football match. Especially if they do that on the basis of home supporters not being able to control themselves.

They had issues at Ajax, because they very stupidly put on a pro Palestine protest on pre match. What on earth did they think would come of that? There is nothing to gain what so ever and if you care that much, pop over to Israel and protest, of course they fucking wouldn't. I would imagine that if there was no protests it would go a lot smoother. As someone else said, what happens when Spurs come to Villa this season then? I don't imagine the Tel Aviv fans are blameless and I imagine, like every set of footballing fans in the country, they will have cunts following them too. By banning them it has created a bigger story, their die hard fans I imagine will still travel and you potentially may get greater trouble than first feared.

Why do thousands of them pre match and post match keep chanting death to Arabs and chants about dead Palistinian children?

I can't say I see thousands and I imagine there are a number of them who do, Palestine protests have hate speech and death threats chanted also. It is ok one side though. What is happening is a whole fan base is being punished and a whole fan base is being judged based off the actions of not their whole fan base. This is the irony I originally spoke of.

So let me get this right Maccabi Tel Aviv are accepting the police advice to call the game off.

But they don't want to except the advice of our police?

Yep, Sounds legit
If you are really interested in true news, it wasn't the MT fans causing the trouble. The opposing fans were.

Ed Miliband trying to make this ban an anti-Jewish thing.

It’s not; if anything, it’s an anti-Israel thing.

They’re not the same.
So if a visibly Jewish person walked into a park in Aston with his Star of David, he would be welcome? Please.

Sorry Mr Starmer. A 30 second internet search will tell you different.

I hope the Tel Aviv fans can come to the game in Birmingham (possibly a smaller allocation if trouble makers can be weeded out) and both home and away fans may enjoy the game in safety. Extra security will need to be deployed and the Brummies will need to be prepared to defend themselves if it goes tits up.

This is all getting a bit out of hand again. Have deleted a few posts, but let’s stick to discussing the actual thread topic please, namely the banning of Maccabi Tel Aviv fans from the upcoming game at Villa Park. If you want to discuss the Israel/Palestine situation generally there is a separate thread for that. Let’s keep civil and respectful too.

Jeezus I wouldn’t dare go to a thread like that ;)

Thousands. This is not dozens or a few hundreds. How many Palestinian Football teams fans are chanting?

How many Pro Palestine supporters are chanting and death threats? Thousands mate, same with singers at concerts, thousands singing. That is sound though. Dangerous game when you start to alienate a fan base or a group of people. Very dangerous

Yeh but what about Palestinian Football cubs fans. Why do we never hear any horrible chanting off them. Or off the National side too. Why's that?

They’ve a bad reputation, but I think it’s more nuanced than that. They’d get an absolute pasting by the locals in that part of Brum and basically the police know they’re likely to be attacked and are trying to avoid a riot. They can’t win whatever they do but it’s more to do with Gaza than football fan behaviour. A tricky one - ultimately for the Government I suppose, as in the end everything comes back to them. But I agree, nothing to do with Villa.
I'm delighted that the police are suddenly taking the welfare of Israeli Jews seriously, given they've done fuck all previously to make the UK Jewish community feel safe.
