Vincent Kompany injuries

He did but he also didn't particularly help matters in summers 2015 and 2016. 2015 he had a hand in De Bruyne and Sterling but no full backs signed and Otamendi came in who didn't solve the defensive problem. 2016 he came in and didn't sign a full back and Bravo was a disaster in goal.

It's always left Pep a year behind to where we need to be. We did good business this summer but are still short in midfield (Yaya kept around to fill a void when he's on his last legs), struggling at centre back without Kompany, a Mendy injury away from having no left back and have no other striker than Jesus or Aguero.

It'll be another year or two until the squad is complete and then Pep could be on his merry way. I don't see him here long term. I hope we at least have a season with Pep where we have a good full squad of players with hopefully 1 or 2 academy players.

I think the full back situation was a fairly unique one which maybe wasn't helped by the fact that Pellegrini knew he was pretty much just keeping the seat warm for Pep and so wasn't that interested in easing the path for someone else. All our full backs were over thirty when Pep arrived, three of them only had one season left on their contracts and the other one wasn't very good. I'm sure he (Pep) had to make a choice on which area he revamped first and he chose the attack, partly because it's the area that excites him most and partly because it was sensible financially to let Zaba's, Clichy's and Sagna's contracts run out and the release them.
As for Pep, I'll be surprised and majorly disappointed if he isn't around for at least another three seasons.

We should have replaced 1-2 of our fullbacks a lot earlier than now. We have bought extremely stupid in the years after we got Aguero. Too many misses than hits to be honest.

Our best captain in a generation. Unfortunately he has always put Belgium before us. I don't have a problem with that except that he takes risks to play for them and not for us it seems and never learns it's not a good idea. He won't be happy being injured so perhaps he will take note finally.

I'm as pissed off with him getting injured in internationals as you are mate. I am sure we all are.

Put I don't agree he puts his country ahead of us. He simply wants to play all the time and gives 100% all the time and his body is just not up to it. imo.

Doesn't matter if the injury happened with Belgium or us. It would have happened again at some point a his calfs are knackered. Dare I say we saw a couple of signs his pace had gone at Brighton and Bournemouth? VVD is the man for me. Hopefully in January.

Have loved Vinny but this has gone on for years now and it taints our season. We have to be ruthless. He wont be playing 40 games a season ever for anyone.

Come on mate he really doesn't. He adores this club. And he could equally have had that injury playing/training for us, as has been the case umpteen times.

O
Me personally, I want a top rated LB, CB, RM, CDM & CF for cover at the very least & it seems Pep & the club do too.

I don't know where you get that assumption from, "Pep and the Club want". All we know is that Pep wanted Sanchez who does not even play in one of the positions you listed. And a cb, a position I agree we need cover in.
Now bearing in mind West Brom wanted £35M for JFE and Sanchez with less than a year left on his contract was going to cost £60M. How much do you think your extra 5 players would have cost and how do we square that with Fair Play?

Mendy is injured, Gundogan is not fully fit..................... quick let's get rid......... quick let's all panic and get them retired!!! WAIT UNTIL WE HEAR SOMETHING FROM EITHER VINCENT KOMPANY HIMSELF OR THE CLUB!!!

Sorry Mods for shouting but honestly you'd think our Captain's career was over!! I know that I am probably the wrong person to make a comment on VK with the 'adoration' I have for him I guess I can't be completely neutral but I still say wait for something official. Sorry folks. :-)

He does love City that's true. But City manage his injury whereas Belgium don't. If Vinny put us first I think he would see the risk and say no to Belgium sometimes as I think he has learned to with City despite his desire to play in every game. I don't think Pep was too pleased with VK on his return from International duty IF reports are to be believed.

I love Vinny but the club has been at a disadvantage every time he has been injured... and it's has been rolling on for a few seasons. A decision has to be made by the hierarchy and a line drawn under the issue. There's no reason he can't stay on in a reduced capacity or alternative role, but, in a hypothetical situation where he would want to leave for the remainder of his career, I'm in no doubt he'd be welcomed back with open arms in a managerial / coaching capacity.

I don't go with this theory that him playing for Belgium costs us.

Imo all it has done, is stop him from breaking down in the middle of a City game & us having to shuffle the defence, which is what Pep opted for as an ongoing risk, when he decided to gamble on him being a key player this season.

If he turns up on Saturday & is motm, there is no guarantee he'll play again in Oct. It can & probably will happen, at any time.

Imo, Vinny should effectively be the 4th choice cb, a player who can step in when he's fit & help if things go pear shaped & the younger players (& some older ones) learn the game. Not the mainstay of the defence.

The mainstay of the defence, should be the bloke we sign next.

OK let me spell this out to you. What we need is one thing & FFP is another, however the 2 are connected, but that STILL doesn't mean we don't need to fill those positions.

For the avoidance of doubt, RM is right midfield or RF (Right forward) or RSS (right sided striker) for Sanchez. Put those in your glossary of terms for future reference, so we can leave out the guessing game. In terms of what we need, like you have alluded, you haven't yet told me why we don't need to fill the positions I outlined, or why you believe Danilo covering both LB & RB is a great idea. Danilo was probably only signed because Alves opted for PSG which screwed up our defensive Plan A in any case. God forbid if Danilo was to get injured as you'd probably suggest we try to resign Clichy or Sagna.

We need to rebuild and move on FFP or no FFP.

You are spot on. As much as i love vinny, i think he should be the 4th choice cb. Scouts be active and find some young koscielny, alderweired, who would be cheap but quality and if possible experienced. I like alderweired though.

I agree with your post. Also I think it would be a bit much to try and stop someone playing international football with a World Cup coming up. Like you say if it wasn't that game it would probably be midway through one of our games. Since Vinny has been out Stones has stepped up though and is playing really well IMO. I think we have only conceded 1, against West Brom, since VK got injured.

Stones has done really well, but in the last couple of games has had a couple of Stones moments & I hope we don't see that creep back in.

Otamendi has done well too, but has still had several potential game changers & got away with it.

If the pair of them could cut that out, we would be ok v most teams. The problem is whether we are still ok v Chelsea. We weren't v Liverpool, but that was a mistake having Otamendi in a 3 v pace imo, which was unfair on him & caused his head to go.

That unfortunately is the problem with out two centre halfs, not a lack of ability but the unnecessary mistakes they make.

Otamendi for me is the most frustrating because due to his age he should be experienced enough when to dive in or not. His mistakes are carbon copies everytime and sadly are more likely in the biggest of occasions.

True, but on Tuesday, right at the end, he stepped out into the defensive line, to catch the oppo attacker offside, in contrast to being asleep again v Palace, two yards deeper than the line, playing Benteke onside just before half time.

Pep went fucking apeshit at that & then on Tuesday, in the last minute, Otamendi catches an oppo offside.

So maybe he is actually able to improve.

We need to rebuild and move on FFP or no FFP.

What do you mean FFP or no FFP? We live in the real world and we have FFP to contend with. Fantasy football, Football Manager FIFA is not the real world.

We have the following midfielders, they can all play left side, right side or centre and do from time to time but not all at the same time because we can only play 4 or a maximum of 5 at anyone time.
Sane
Sterling
B Silva
D Silva
KDB
Gundogan
Fernandinho
Delph
And that doesn't include the 3 kids and Yaya who are named in the squad. How many midfielders do you want?
