Vincent Kompany injuries

He's no use, we're paying him shit loads of money for him to get treated. I agree with @peace frog ...sell him and bring in another fit centre back

I love the guy but there's no room for sentiment in this day and age
Sell him to who?
If he's on a big wage at City he's not going to take a big drop to move a club who are willing to take a punt on a high class crock.
As you say there's no room for sentiment, he's sticking it out unless we pay him off.

Let him go where? He has 2 years left on his contract so we’re In no position to just say thanks for your service now off you pop.
He stays here. We just buy another CB that can be counted on to be available for over half the games in a season and takes the CL spots for the 2018.

I think if the right replacement became available - for example Laporte - the club would bring them in and let Vinny either leave or see out his contract.

I wish he could get fit and think we are a stronger team with him but the reality of the situation is that we need to move on if we are going to get to where the owners aspire to be.

Someone out there could buy him...maybe the Milan clubs...maybe he could go China who knows

Good luck with getting that lot to part with their cash. Would want a loan with us paying 90% of the wages. The Chinese gravy train has been derailed due to government action.

In Pep’s mind, he’s done. I suspect he will either get his coaching badges or enjoy a comfy chair in the pundit lounge.

It is sad to say, but other than a possible cameo role sometime this season, we may have seen the last serious period of his career. I’m sure he is desperate to get fit for Russia, but that might be his swan song for both club and country.
I fully agree with your thinking on Vinny's future, "post World Cup". Let's hope the club utilise his experience in some form or other. It would be great if Pep takes him under his wing, as he has with Arteta. Vinny has so much to offer, very bright well educated, excellent communicator, charismatic leader of people, a dogged fighter, and winner. I feel that if there was ever anyone to be schooled in Pep's philosophy, Vinny would be that person. If not on the playing side, "wow" the club have someone they could mentor and develop into, well anything! The sky has no limit for Vincent Kompany.

That doesn't answer my question. We are in no position to sell him due to his injury problems. The only way he leaves is if he retires, which is a big possibility come the end of the WC.

I have a theory reading between the lines......

Obviously a genuine injury but I think our medical team get him to a certain stage and say, that as far as they are concerned, he is fit to play. Then it's up to Vinny if he feels his calf will hold up. This then becomes a psychological issue for Kompany....if he believes it will go again he won't train or play. Whether he is right or not nobody knows. It could just be a confidence thing.

The above scenario fits Pep's statement that he is very close to coming back followed by he has no idea when he will be back and it's up to Vinny to tell him as he knows his own body.

I think he is physically fit but, after every set back, there is the mental hurdle to get over.

So when Vinny gets a small set back that other players would shrug off it becomes a big issue for Vinny who will be thinking of not missing out on the latter stages of the CL and the WC.

It's all I can think of that would explain the comments. Notice there has been no mention of a second injury or indeed a set back, just its up to Vinny and we don't know.

I agree with all of that, it seems to be the issue preventing him from playing.

We don't need to recoup money from Vinny, selling him is not important, if he leaves we just let him go.

He was back training for a little bit but hasn't featured in any of the training videos for a while now. Definitely a set back of some kind.

Up until 2014, Kompany was a brilliant inspirational leader. However, the club then drifted in his absence, with too many officials and supporters preferring blind faith to the brutal truth that something was drastically wrong.

I also think the constant speculation affected the confidence of the other central defenders, as they awaited every false dawn in the knowledge that one of them would be dropped.

Thankfully, it seems that Guardiola has had enough.

Kompany might still get a few games, but only on the Manager’s terms.

Pep's dream to play 3-5-2 has been destroyed after 4 games. I know we played 3-5-2 against Liverpool with Danilo as RCB but it was one off for me. Pep will only use 3-5-2 regularly if Vinny is fit which is highly unlikely.

When fit he is stil a great back up to have,we'll see him again i'm sure,he is one of the players who deserves more respect from us fans

When he plays, and i admit its not that often these days, he is a massive presence , we should remember Vinne for what he has been over the years, if he struggles to play for us again and we replace him it will be a very sad day in my eyes however we have to be realistic now.

Agreed Vinnie has been a big part in the club's recent history but there comes a time to move on £8M a year is too much to pay for a back up FFP is still around and that money would be better spent on a player that will be available more often than not

One of my all time favourite players Kaz but its time to move on. This could be the 3rd consecutive season he'll have played less than 15 PL games.

Why is it Pep's dream to play 3-5-2 ?

He used 4-3-3 in his whole career with Barca, Bayern and even City and now he is having his best run of results with 4-3-3

True i guess,i'm having a hard time letting our old players go,he might take a wage cut to meet the club in the middle i guess,i just want to see him play once more and go out in true vinny style
