I share the love that we all have for our captain, I really do.

But does anyone else think he looks a shadow of the player he did last season? I'm not just talking about last night, but in most games.

Is it the lack of a first choice back 4 that's hurting him? I hate to say it, but he is appearing very vulnerable at times.

Before people get on my back and say I'm slagging him off, I'm not. I'm just wondering where the King Kompany of last season was?

The entire team haven't been as good as last season's start. We only played well after Chrstmas in the last 6 games to be fair. It'll settle down and these threads singling out players will fade away.

I really don't see why we should be critical of Kompany. The midfield failed to stop Madrid too often last night leaving the heart of our defence exposed. For the most part I thought Kompany did well under extreme and constant presure.

As for Madrid's 3rd goal this wasn't Kompany's fault. He doesn't duck under the ball he avoids glancing it. The shot was struck powerfully by Ronaldo but was going to his, Kompany's, right. He doesn't have the time to get in front of it (try watching it a normal speed!). It's an awful dilema for a defender, do you try and intervene but risk deflecting it into your net? Kompany in a split second instinctively decides against touching it, and I believe it was the right thing to do; he was just unlucky the Hart was beaten by the dip of the ball.

People said the same at the start of last season as well and look how that turned out for him.

He will sort himself out. He's not at his best but still good enough and there is nobody I would rather have.

Vinnie had a similar spell just prior to the start of the season last year, community shield etc. I think it's just a case of he takes a couple of games to get up and running. I'm sure he'll be back to his stellar best soon enough.

4 games gone 2 points of top and got beat off the best team in the world last night in the champs.

Sorry , can't really agree with that ...

don't really like singling out any one player for criticism , but the Vincent Kompany of last season would have blocked that Ronaldo effort , and he should have 'stood tall' last night in the face of Ronaldos hopeful punt ...... at that late stage of the game he should have done ANYTHING to get in the way of that shot ......... you could clearly see from Joe Harts actions after the ball was in the net that he thought kompany SHOULD have dealt with it ..... the 'ducking motion' of Kompany clearly , and definitely , threw Joe Hart into confusion there.

But you could also say that Javi Garcia might have reacted a bit quicker for Madrids first goal .... he should have bust a gut to get a bit closer to Marcello.

He doesn't need to grip on to anything though.

Is there a rule somewhere that states that nobody can mention when someone isn't playing well, ever? Because any time a thread pops up with a mere suggestion of questioning of some players or the manager and loads of people flap and their posts often end with the three letters F, F and S.

This isn't fucking RAWK, everyone is entitled to talk about things that aren't just wonderful. This is a forum and anyone is free to have positive and negative threads about them; fans, management team, players... just like any conversation anyone would have down the pub.
