His groningen goals are class. Irrespective of his scoring, his movements remind me of a certain Vincent Kompany.

Kompany and van Dijk would be quite a duo. Worth a pun. And many years ahead of himmtoo.

Thought I would look up the CL player ratings for this season as follows:
Away V AC Milan, lost 2 nil, 18/9/13
Virgil van Dijk 3/5 Performed his role excellently, sticking tight to Matri and Balotelli. Organised the defence effectively and could do nothing to prevent either Milan goal.

Home v Barca, lost 1 nil, 1/10/13
Virgil van Dijk 3/5 Made a good early tackle on Iniesta and won numerous headers & personal duels.

Home v Ajax, won 2-1, 22/10/13
Virgil van Dijk 3.5/5 The Dutch defender was a colossus, looking assured throughout and able and willing at times to move forward and support the players in front of him.

Away v Ajax, Lost 1 nil, 6/11/13
Virgil van Dijk 3.5/5 A rock at the back for the visitors as he won almost every header in his vicinity. Passing looked to set up attacks as he combined well with Mulgrew.

Home v AC lost 3 nil 26/11/13
Virgil van Dijk 1.5/5 This was not his night. Along with Forster, the Dutchman can be held culpable for Kaka’s header. He then missed a glorious chance to level the scores when he opted for power from six yards out and shot straight at Abbiati. Almost made up for it but had a header ruled out for offside before he was caught out by Balotelli for the third goal and later booked for fouling the striker.

Virgil van Dijk 2/5 The standout player for the Bhoys as he made some crucial challenges and desperate blocks. Read the runs of the Barcelona front line fairly well.

Apart from the AC Milan game at home Dijk seem to perform at a very high level against top opposition. Some very creditable displays.
