Hope we go balls deep for VVD - not because I want him but would love to see the dippers pushed to £70m + !

It stings saying it but I don't think he's even fit regularly enough to be a 4th choice, we need someone who can be depended upon fitness wise if we get an injury crisis and to be frank mangala will probably make more appearances this season
 
there has been a lot of disparaging remarks on this thread nearly all unfounded rubbish VVD is as good as Kompany in his pomp,powerful quick a good touch good in the air and a good passer and that is the problem , does Pep want this kind of player? I do not think he does

According to Sam Lee, it looks like VVD is the preferred option in January over Martinez.

The only question is squad harmony. How will Virgil handle seeing Stones & Otamendi start most games Sam says.

Also says we won’t go for Sanchez or an LB this upcoming window.

Personally think VVD will play a lot of games and will provide competition for our CBs, when Mendy returns, we can go to 3 at the back again with VVD, Stones, & Otamendi which is top class.

Looks like Liverpool won’t be buying a CB this window so we have a free run at VVD.

We should bid £50m and get it done, I think it will be enough.

Lee's quotes don't add up. Pep said he needs to rotate our squad & it's been acknowledged that outside of Sterling & Sane, we'd be trying to put square pegs in round holes.

We have no back up in case something happens to Delph, & as feared Kompany can't be relied upon, so injuries to Stones or Otamendi mean Mangala, Danilo or Tosin.

Taking all of this into consideration, our squad isn't as well stocked as many think. 1-15 is great, but after that comes Mangala, Danilo & then the kids. The only positions I'm not sweating about is CAM, HOWEVER after Fernandinho it's Yaya.

So back to Sam Lee's article. With a manager like Pep, does anyone really think he'd forego desperately needed squad reinforcements, to keep a perceived squad unity in tact?

Lee needs to ask Bernardo, Gundogan, Mangala, Bravo, Danilo & Yaya what they think about having to sit on the bench at Manchester City. From my vantage point in the stands, those players seem quite content to me, so why wouldn't any potential reinforcements?
 
Take Kompany out of the equation and we could have a similar CB pool to Bayern currently. Stones is Boateng, good on the ball, regular starter. Van Dijk is Hummels, great in the air, imposing and good from set-pieces. Otamendi is Javi Martinez and Mangala, the backup, is Badstuber. Problem with this is keeping them all happy.

Pretty sure that if Fernando gets injured Yaya would not be used for a big game.
It would be a case of someone playing out of position.
