In a normal world, he’d be worth us paying circa £50mil, however if the price is in that range then pretty sure the dippers would be in for him too, then it would depend on did he still fancy playing for them.

If we go nearer £70mil then the dippers won’t touch us.

Lots of reasons:

We’ve saved £60m on not buying Sanchez on deadline day. (This is a rather important one).

We can now push on as the rest of the team looks set in an attacking sense.

We are breaking records and can start thinking about winning the league but strengthening now and not having to buy or make wholesale purchases for a few seasons. Plus we’ve topped our group and can realistically budget what our CL income will be.

And because Pep took a gamble on Kompany having fully pushed past his injury troubles.
The £60m burning a hole in our pocket is indeed an important point, we can push all our funds towards VvD knowing full well we'll get Sanchez on a free in the summer, two players for the price of one. Both these players will fit perfectly into our system and style of play.

Looks like the Dippers are turning their interest to Stefan De Vrij, unless it's a bluff?

Well he'd be mad to still prefer Liverpool at this stage.

I suppose there is the fact he might well start here with Stones and Otamendi playing like they have done this season. I assume we'll end up playing 3 at the back more often to keep them happy but it's a risk for him.

At Liverpool he'll play every game.

He'd walk into the team and win far more over the next five years.

Who are you dropping for him?

Can't be Stones who was arguably our best or second best player up to his injury, and Otamendi is in undroppable form.

So we'd have to go 3 at the back.

He wins stuff in this team though.

If he backs himself, and it us he's off to, fair fucks to him.
Agreed. If he has the good sense to look out for his future and his chance to be the best he can be, then it’s a no brainer...sky blue all day long.

Otamendi is coming to the end of his career, Stones is young and coming into his prime, and Tosin is the future. He would be walking into an ideal position, with a coach who will get the absolute best out of him. And, that’s without mentioning Vinny and Mangler!

"Kevin Palmer is reporting that a structured deal that is approaching Southampton’s lavish £70m asking price is close to being agreed"

"Unless Manchester City or Chelsea back up their reported interest in the player with a bid that matches the offer on the table from Liverpool"

haha, so it begins...Reminds me a lot of the summer. I'm sure the same Kevin Palmer reported that VVD sacked his agent in the summer?
