Thank God! I know I was the party pooper all summer about the spending, but Christ! 70 mil for a Virgil. Jeez!

For 45
We should be able to get one of:
Kalidou Koulibally (best option)
Milan Skriniar (best young prospect)
Stefan Dr Vrij
Matthias Ginter

At least 1 if not all of them will cost less than 45 million.

#70millionstupid
It’s crazy that the club employ all these scouts when they should just read your posts.

They would have sold Sterling though if they had.

Considering Napoli turned down 52 million from Chelsea for Koulibaly last summer I'm very certain they won't be selling him to us for 45. Same thing for all these players, they'll all be in high demand with multiple clubs after them, there's no way we're getting any of them on the cheap...these aren't unknowns from the second division.
Below is the the list and cost of most of the major Central defender who moved last season:
Davidson Sanchez 42 million
Lindelof 35 million
Harry Maguire 17 million
Nathan Ale 22 million
Bruno indi 7 million
Rudoger 35 million
Bonucci 40 million
Antonio Conti 25 Million
Skriniar 30 million
Benatia 17 million
Juan Jesus 8 million

As you can see it ranged from straight loans to at the highest 42 million. No one cracked 45 million. So the notion that the guys I suggested 'all' might, is ludicrous.

I don't know if a 52 million Koulibally bid was rejected. I generally don't believe paper made up bod stories. But going by the list of actually accepted offers, its easy to see that its unlikely most will cost over 45 million.

And as the list above shows, you don't have to be from the 2nd division to cost less than 45 million. As a matter of fact, costing more than 45 million is the aberration.

People don't pay excessively for defenders because defending is often more about coaching, while attacking is more about talent.

Really impressed with Koulibaly in the two games against Napoli.

Looks very assured on the ball for such a big lad.
Of all the defenders who have never played under Pep, there isn't any who plays more like a Pep defenders does than this guy.

I have watched this lad a lot and you are right there is a defender at city who plays like him, his name is Mangala. Koulibally is older more experienced and bedded in, but Mangala is the better footballer and as much as i like him and wish we would give him game time Pep does not. As for vvd costing 70 million Pep wants Sanchez possible on a free we want a back up Lb no point in paying top dollar and we want a top quality midfielder who may or may not cost top dollar so my point is we can afford to pay the price the only concern is does Pep want him?

Didn’t look good on the highlights v Leicester the other night but it was only the highlights.
Going off what Pep said on his Presser today, we are looking for someone for the future not just a short fix, therefore, I think Evans is not on the wanted list.
If it’s not VVD, it’s anyones guess but I back Pep to pick out another gem.

If its over 45 million it is Skriniar.

I'm conscious of going too far off topic but most of those players aren't remotely comparable to what we would have to pay to acquire any of your initial list. ie: the transfer fee paid by Juve for an often injured, 30 year old Medhi Benati, has no bearing whatsoever on what we would need to pay as Manchester City, with the premium that teams demand of us, for up and coming players who everyone wants (with the probable exception of De Virj given his contract situation.)

De vrij is out of contract in the summer, we should make a move.

Didn't realize that. We should just not spend a penny this summer and bring in De Vrij, Goretzka, and Sanchez and recall Maffeo and Gunn. The media would lose their shit if they couldn't say we spent a ton of money.
