Virgin Train discounts for City fans

It's a good point that, I was searching Crewe to Watford which involved a change at Milton Keynes onto a London midland train, hence why probably the discount didn't apply. Perhaps I should have tried just Crewe to mk and bought a separate ticket for the next leg

Just book separate tickets, virgin to mk, then the rest as a different ticket, it can work out cheaper that way sometimes anyway, and you'll get a discount on your virgin.....

Seems you can use both railcard and the city discount. jut tested it online with a student railcard and came up even cheaper

Sounds great but i would check that before a jobsworth guard tells you your ticket is invalid and charges you the full fare!
