on my home pc,which is about 6 years old,i have a virus which has removed my task manager and my contol panel as well as disabling my anti-virus.ran a scan and downloaded the appropriate remedy(stinger) but still there. thing is iv got all my bank details online and keep getting a "your computer is making unauthorised copies of your files"warning, which i suspect is actually the virus. should i take it somewhere to get it sorted or just bin the fucker and go for a cheap laptop or new tower?

You could Format your Hard Drive and re-install everything, better than having to buy a new PC or Lappy.

Sounds like this might be your best option now ...... if the virus has shut down your 'system restore' function too.

All i did was take a 'ghost image' of my computer (on floppy disk) when it was working fine ....... the moment i was sure i'd got a virus i simply restored the ghost image to the computer an' the virus was gone.

Not much help to you as the virus is already there by the sound of it ...... but it's a useful tip for the future!
