Hi all

Just got myself a nice shiny £600 laptop with all the perks. It runs great, but the internet is so goddamn slow it's almost unbearable! I've tried two different browsers, hard wired and wireless connections and different passwords but all to no avail. We have a 20Mbps connection, and my laptop downloads at about 40-50Kbps which is obviously way out. I had XP Pro before this laptop and could get about 1Mbps file download speed from it so im guessing it's Vista.

Anyone else had this problem, and better yet, know how to fix it?

Cheers

You're certainly not alone!

Most people i know are havin' trouble with Vista , i've had a vista disc for months now , but am not installin' it yet , i'm gonna stick with XP PRO for now .......... i believe Microsoft have agreed to extend XP PRO's lifespan because of the problems with Vista ....... no answers on how to fix it as yet.

Personally, I can't see how your OS would adversely affect your download speed, unless it's something like a windows firewall stopping things.

been running it for months with no problems whatsoever. surely download speeds are more likely to be affected by the source rather than your computer. where are you downloading from?

Tried it with several places including Microsoft website, Mozilla website, everything I download barely touches 50 at a good time. No idea what's causing it.

I had an issue with wireless internet and Vista... my antivirus software (Norton) was apparently the issue (not as compatible with Vista as they assumed i guess)... unistalled and installed a different antivirus program... wireless works like normal now... might be worth a shot

How is the laptop connecting to the internet- direct to a modem, wired into a router or wireless? The WIFI could be limiting your speed if that's how you're connected.
