Pussey has been on the field and looked woeful sadly on every occasion.
 
Nobody here has seen Vitor Reis play, so we just have to have faith that this level of investment in such a young player is a good one. There is also interest from other clubs with a track record of buying young talent and selling them later for big money.

With a fully fit squad & Rodri as a 6, we'd still be a force to be reckoned with imo, BUT there's no stopping the hands of ole Father Time. As our players age, injuries are easier to come by & harder to heal quickly from, & because of Pep's preference for a smaller squad, the perfect storm has ravaged us.

I think this goes beyond loyalty. I agree with you 100% that it's the complacency that this perfect storm would never hit us, which has led to the dire situation we find ourselves. We're heading toward a summer where TWELVE members of our squad will be 30+. We can't be relying on them to play 60+ games per season, at the highest echelon of football, 3 times per week. It's impossible to do this at the zenith of football, at that age. It's just the harsh reality of biology & physics.

We also need to act decisively with Jack, Nunes & McAtee. Jack's effectively become a £100m paperweight, Nunes was never up to the recent historical standards of Manchester City's squads & has done nothing to dispense that notion, & McAtee should either be given a fair chance to prove himself, or sold with a buy back clause & sell on fee.

Major surgery is needed at the Etihad & we need to be brutally honest with ourselves. It's pointless hanging on to the older players we have, hoping they can overcome the realities of age, just as much as it's pointless hanging on to players who're taking up a squad place, but rarely played when they're not up to the elite standards we've set.

Put it this way . If either of these lads put in performances like JSP they will be wrote off as some of our worst ever signings.

Harsh on JSP but that's the reality.
 
I’m not keen on buying young CBs. Think CB is the one role where experience and age are major attributes. You are stronger and wiser in your mid to late 20s.

Simpson-Pusey just got bullied but Gyokeres in the CL as he’s not a man yet. You have to be physically strong and that’s why I would personally have gone tried and tested over potential.
 
Many CBs have been bullied by Gyokeres, it's why his goal record is as it is. Every young player has strengths and areas for development. Physical power is probably the easiest to develop. Technique, passing range, and comfort on the ball, all of which he has, take a lot longer. Anyway, I am sure that we all want to see great talents emerging from the academy but we must be patient because they are not 30-year-old finished articles.

Even if stones leaves we would still have Ake, Dias, Gvardiol & Akanji. I think those 2 will take the place of Aké and Akanji over time. And then there is still JSP. If everything goes well City won’t need to buy new CB in the next years. Hell we might even get an actual RB/LB.

Well the intention is that we can get Dias back fit. Keep Akanji and Ake fit and this lad can build up his time in the team.

We haven't sold the experience or age. We are just building for the future.

I agree with all you have said apart from loyalty. Could it not be argued that loyalty played a huge part in our treble and 4 in a row success? I would take that loyalty now if it meant we continue to win and have a bad season every 4/5 years.

As a club we stay humble and loyal. It does have its drawbacks but what’s the alternative? Change players too early?

It’s a tough balancing act and one we have done well to sidestep a few times.

As much as this season has hurt us it will help us avoid making such a mistake in the future. Well maybe… no one is perfect.
