Vladimír Weiss

Pretty good, looks better than post-ankle injury Johnson anyway. He looked dangerous at times against both Barca and Real, and now that he's learned Spanish starts every game.

Pros:
- Fast and direct
- Skillful and good technique
- Actually has some vision unlike many wingers
- Good at set-pieces and crosses
- Works hard and still improving

Cons:
- Often keeps the ball too long and runs himself into trouble
- Still naive
- Can be petulant
- Can fade out of games like Johnson as he waits for the ball instead of going to find it too much

Do not think he is going to stay with us but I am convinced Mancini would make a very good player out of him with some time.

With the way Johnson is playing if bob is trying to save pennies he will have to bring him back and at least try him over Johnson surley.

So he is just like Johnson then, apart from the goal threat

No because I don't consider Johnson fast and direct. He seemed faster when he joined us, now he seldom beats the first man and dilly-dallies with the ball too much. Weiss will get the ball, run with it, and get a cross in like a traditional winger. Weiss also makes some very intelligent runs that his team-mates don't seem to spot, I was watching Espanyol last weekend and was raging as Weiss made some beautiful runs that Silva would have picked out in a heartbeat and played a through ball to him but the Espanyol players didn't.

Don't get me wrong, Weiss isn't great and has his frustrating moments too, but I'd have him over Johnson right now as Weiss has that hunger Johnson doesn't, is more direct (and we badly need a direct winger), and his crossing is good. If we buy a top winger then it doesn't matter either way, Johnson and Weiss will probably both go.

He's an alright player, it might be worth trying him a bit if we want some width in matches but I don't think he's got a career at City to be honest. Fair play to him if he wants to leave, he really did seem to fall in love with Rangers.

Johnson "dilly-dallies" usually because we have little to aim at in the area. A "fast direct" winger in effect would be crossing to nobody

It is only when a winger or full back hits the byline that we usually have people to aim at. Pace in these situations is not essential, the craft and guile of people like Silva and Nasri is. .

We like to play Dzeko or Balotelli and either of them could or should be in the box, and isn't always outside of it. Dzeko is at least in the box regularly just like last night when Kolarov whipped that wank "cross" straight into the goalkeepers hands, leaving Dzeko staring dumbfounded. Mancini himself said last season a winger is needed to get the best out of Dzeko but hasn't followed his own advice or maybe he expected more from Johnson.

A skillful and intelligent player (who can beat his marker) can also cut the ball back if there is no one right in the box, instead of whipping it in, like Milner did in the 6-1 to feed Mario his first goal. Johnson seems to prefer to go for glory and re-live his goal against Sunderland two seasons back on the rare occasion where he does actually have a free run at the box.

And also I don't buy the reason for Johnson's dilly-dallying being because of an empty box, I just don't think he has the pace or skill to regularly beat the first man anymore, when he tries he is usually stopped - like the makeshift left-back against Sunderland, Colback, who Johnson could not get past about 6 times. Johnson just isn't very good, we've already seen the best of him IMO.

Think he's decent but not consistent enough.... A poorman's johnson but with a little extra pace.

↑You say he's not consistent. No winger on the planet is. It's the hardest job to ask for consistency.

He caused Barca AND Madrid defenders problems. He always looked Espanyol's biggest threat and every time he had the ball, they had to close him down hard and quickly!

This kid can beat a man more often than Johnson, that's for certain. Hopefully Espanyol is improving his passing, etc.

La Liga would be a great league to develop these technical attributes in his game.

I'm sure we could easily find a buyer for a player of Weiss' ilk but we chose to send him off on loan to an actually decent team! And they're playing him.

He turned 22 a few months ago so he's already getting consistent first team football and is 3 years younger than Johnson. By all accounts, the Espanyol fans adore him!

Is Weiss home grown qualified, he's been here during his youth team age.
Yes, and there's no reason we can't keep Weiss and Johnson at the same time. Weiss is right-footed so we could stick him on the left as an inside-out winger like Bobby prefers and we also have the option to play them more like standard wingers.

I don't see any reason they can't be squad players at least for CC games or lower PL teams to rest the likes of Silva and Balo.

It all hinges on whether BM wants to keep him, personally I think at some point we may have to bite the bullet and accept we aren't going to have world class players as well as backups for every position.

If we assume we are going to have 18 really top drawer players then 7 have to be "good enough". The rags have been doing it for years with their bench, maybe we need to be similar.

No I dont think its that really. The problem is the likelihood of weiss wanting to stay knowing that he will only play the odd game. For rangers he played almost every game and he would prefer that at a lesser club rather than play at man city as a 3rd choice wide player behind the likes of silva, milner or johnson.

think his contract expires at the end of the season, he will leave for free, this shouldnt happen, our club needs a better policy, 5mill lost IMO, we are constantly mugged off while ferguscum gets rid of his deadwood to friends (gibson, oshea, brown) bridge, onouha,RSC,ADE,Jo show we are being taken for mugs, now tevez is leading us a merry dance, WTF?.....

ive always liked weiss! hes a very good player which will only improve more! hope he comes back to us next season and gets a chance and takes it!

End of next season so it will be decision time in the summer, sell or give new contract. Even McGivern got a new contract this summer so wouldn't be surprised if Weiss was offered one but I think he will choose to leave if he isn't offered first team football.

I can't be the only one becoming suspicious of you...
