I remember Walter when he was at Dundee United. An honest, solid pro without being an exceptional player. But it was as a manager he excelled taking over the reigns at Ibrox when Souness left with a title still up for grabs and Aberdeen breathing down our necks.
I think what he will most be remembered for though was his humanity and decency. He was way above all the insults that regularly got traded across Glasgow, he never got involved in any of that nonsense and many up here hold him in esteem for that.
