Was Roy Keane overrated?

I constantly hear pundits talking about Roy Keane like he was some kind of galactico all-timer. Frankly he wasn't. Even at the time, I felt he was more a Vinnie Jones character, i.e., physically aggressive and intimidating, but as a technical footballer, pretty average. I cnanot be alone in this?

Correct although I find him a great pundit

Jesus wept.
Brian Clough and Sore Alex knew a bit about football and thought differently but look, it's all about opinions.

As a youngster at Forest he was clearly the best young player around - the ability to boss a game and drive a team. It was no surprise that United signed him and he became a mainstay of their dominance. But all the time there was an underlying anger and over aggression that wasn't necessary - he had the ability to boss a game even without having to kick everything that moved.

Thinking back its hard to remember what he was like as a footballer. He could tackle, he could close down and intercept, he could make the right passes without being spectacular. All of which are necessary in any team. He wouldn't get away with the violent side of his nature now - but the other qualities would still be wanted and he would have grown up in this age using those in modern ways. Yet, that self-destruct ability would always be there - and who knows what that would lead to.

Overrated? No probably not - and if you were picking a best of the 90's team you would be hard pressed not to consider including him in your midfield.

A dickhead when he played. But he was a quality player and not just a clogger.

Saying that, he was probably only better than most other top central midfielders of the time due to having a bit of a screw loose and a mental drive that resulted in very consistent performances at a high level.

Still an arsehole on the pitch though - although I do find him amusing now.

An arrogant **** who fitted so well into the rag dynasty where so many were revered beyond their real worth.

He had ability and drive, but was also a bully and a coward, as demonstrated with his vicious attack on Alfie.

Of all the useless and myopic ex-rag pundits, he is probably the best, which really isn't that difficult, when he isn't trying to prove what a clever **** he fully believes he is.

Will always be a **** as far as I am concerned, along with the over-hyped club and their feeble brained supporters.
