Washing Machines repairs gamble.

We've got 8 14kg machines, all big Samsungs and the bearings in one of them have just gone, whirring, grinding noise. They are at least 12 years old and work like a trooper, I have a small commercial laundry so they get ' used '. Bearings went in one of them so phoned around...cant do it mate, they're commercial, so phoned a commercial guy, cant do it mate, they're domestic......fuck it, too expensive to fit anyway. They dont owe me a penny so not really bothered too much...... so bought a new commercial one.
On another note we have 2 industrial Miele roller presses and the heat extractor went on one...over £1,000 to replace and that was just the part. The engineer ( scouser ), bless him, told me to buy a bathroom extractor fan for £50 from Wickes and connect it in line. I go through one a year but at £50 each....I can live with that.

I bought a fridge freezer from AO.com, it was brand new but reduced in price because of damaged packaging.
When it was delivered it was covered in bubble-wrap, and I mean covered. When I finally unravel it, there was 40+ meters of the damn stuff.
Fortunate timing as my daughter was moving house and had a use for it.

It might be worth asking the place you bought it to repair it for you. Electrical appliances are legally required to last a 'reasonable amounts of time' regardless of any warranty in the UK. There's no exact number of this, but examples often quote around 5-6 years for a washing machine. You might not want to go down the whole legal route, but a lot of people don't even bother trying because they assume that they have no rights once the warranty is done. It's also worth mentioning that if it's a major component that has failed (i.e. the drum) then it's extremely unlikely that that is a failure due to misuse.

I'd say you're borderline, because it's not a premium brand, but it can't hurt to ask. But certainly to the people on here who've bought higher-end stuff, I certainly wouldn't be accepting a Bosch, Samsung or Miele breaking after a few years.

Always best just to buy a beko and chuck it when it breaks. Washing machine repair men and plumbers generally just shag your Mrs and do one. At least they do in the films I've seen.

I now know mine is going to fuck up. Only yesterday I looked at it and realised it’s 15 years old and wondered if or when it’s going to pack in.

This thread has sealed its fate.

It’s getting to the point where no brand is that reliable, so you might as well buy as cheap as possible, within reason.
We’ve been at this point now for a few years. As youngsters bought a mid priced Zanussi washing machine and it lasted about 30 bloody years. A couple of minor repairs that’s all. We google the fuck out of the interwebs for low cost offers on white goods now. (someone’s always doing a deal if you’re not fussed). Also theirs a store near us that sells end of line and B grade stuff and they’ve had all the business of us for about the last 6-7 years now. The whole industry is a scam and the car trade is going the same way.

If you're in Manchester, Moston Lane Appliances are superb for repairs - had them out a few times and they come out either same day, or next day and whilst there's a call out charge they either fix it or knock the charge off the repair bill. Can't rate them enough. Don't bother with the manufacturers or these appliance insurance places, they are a rip off.

We've had a couple of AEGs which were good but the last one we got, and have now, is a Hoover. We have to get an integrated one so it's not particularly cheap but it's been great so far, no problems and just as good as the AEG.

From speaking to the engineers, most are pretty good now even the cheaper ones. Obviously you tend to get what you pay for, but nothing wrong with the Beko/Hisense etc ones from what I can gather from them.

I've not done this, but if you're after the cheapest washers try ebay. My mate was down on his luck around 10 years ago and picked up one that was being replaced as part of a new kitchen. He had to collect it but he paid next to nothing for it and it's still going!

Had a Hoover washing machine for quite a few years and its been spot on. Wife has it on virtually every day, no probs so far and it wasnt expensive (about £400 ish)

I would advise not to pay a fortune as many premium brands are rebadged technology from other brands e.g. Siemens are actually Bosch but you pay extra for Siemens branded stuff.

Miele do manufacture a lot of their own bits on the washing machines but do borrow parts from LG to the extent that only the very top end of their range is fully designed and manufactured by them. Same with all Miele kit their microwaves were produced on the Sharp (just felt a little sick) production line. So those of you who were buying Miele microwaves back in the 90s were funding the rags.

Same with Bosch, although their 2-300 quid offerings are better than beko etc (imho).
Samsung white goods are for pure cunts - the sort that buy milk in bags. I mean, you wouldn't buy a washer from Vodafone and expect it to be any good, so why think Samsung would be any better?

Basic Bosch second hand all the way . I'm on my second . No problem . Just watch it break down tomorrow ....if you've got space a stand alone spinner is good for the heavy work . My mother in law gave me one years ago and it was invaluable for all the terry nappies .
I also have a stand-alone spinner. Great for bedding, towels etc especially in the winter. Proper old fashioned me but I don’t give a monkey’s uncle.
