Watching Football in Town

I'd forgotten about the garratt. The Garratt/courtyard/footage area might be our best bet then. And yes I think that the courtyard is where scu2 was (if Scu one is the on near the aquatics place)

And wearethesouthstand, it's not 'problems' I'm bothered about it's just that I'd rather not drink in palces with these people. For example, brannigans has got united flags all over it so I ain't drinking there, simple as. But yea there are plenty of boozers rou nd oxford road station area and most of em are pretty decent and unique

well we need to start going to these places more, then they might starting putting city gear up on the walls

There are. This being my hood, I'll chip in now. Even Space shows the footy nowadays, and no bugger ever goes in to watch it, so that's rag free. Grand central doesn't allow footy shirts, and doesn't have a telly, so that's a none starter (though the rag landlord did give me special dispensation after the Chelsea win on the basis that the 3rd strip 'looks like some 70s MLS shirt' anyway'!), Lass I've already eulogised in this and other threads - shit layout is compensated for by the sausage and caremelised red onion sandwiches. Varsity soulless but do-able, especially when my mate's on the bar and I get £1 pints, Garret, meh. Sevenoaks shows loads of games (in a similar fashion to the Lass). We could do with a City Centre supporters club really, cos I'm buggered if I can be arsed going to Didsbury or wherever the nearest one is!

A red mate of mine said there's boozers in town that do special deals on match days for them when they're away from home.
I'm sure it'd be possible to to come to the same arrangement when we're away and lads want a few drinks in the City centre.
Loads of big away days coming that people won't be able to get to, Arsenal being a 5.30 kick off on a Saturday for instance.
I'm going myself but wouldn't it be good to see a few boozers in town rammed with City fans.

those who aren't travelling - let's pick a boozer - CITY CENTRE - and all meet up for the arsenal away game... this could then become HQ for next season...

MODS STICKY PLEASE !

Are there any decent places to watch football in town or what? The only places I can think of with big screens is the Footage on Oxford Road and that ain't exactly great. Spent a lot of the last world cup in the sports bar but dunno where to spend this one? There must be somewhere in the City Centre with big High Def screens now, surely?

Footage......offffff, prety shit for football. i normaly go to the varcity on wilmslow park(partly because its just down the road). If you want one in town i would the varcity near the librery

Sawyers Arms on Cross Street is not bad for Sunday games when Rags are not playing

I'm in. Granted it's the best part of 2 months off, but I'd put money on me being in the Lass watching it as it stands. I can change locations if there's a bit of a gathering. This Courtyard sounds an interesting prospect (and is, amazingly, nearer than the lass!)

Thing is, you want to get a few bars near to each other so you can create a decent atmosphere in an area of town rather than just one boozer. Get your thinking cap on aand then get chatting to the landlords in these establishments. As long as most behave themselves, it could become a regular thing.
Shambles Sqaure wouldn't be good obviously as you'd need a screen outside. Deansgate is too rag like and I don't think a lot of the boozers in the northern quarter would put football on.
Any other ideas for a strip of bars in town that may be viable?

That would be quality having a designated away day pub for blues that cant get to the game.

As i've said, more of a blue 'area' in town would be better. People mightn't travel into town if they think it's gonna be just the one packed pub. Think about it.........
