Watching game in town

Yea,I remember a thread about that, dunno what it is with some of these town pubs really,I mean OK,this Saturday is a bit different I suppose, but there is no mither with West Ham,not that there was that many in town pre game anyway, but like you say mate, fuck um,I'll never go there again now, football or no football
They've been on my avoid list since we beat Barnsley in the cup and the door man made me take my city top off

I was in the shack before the game. City's young lot were drinking with young West Ham lads, there wasn't a sniff of trouble and all evening after the game around Northen quarter, Dry Bar etc.

Same happened to me at Sinclairs before the Steaua game
Fuck em

Well annoying that. They seem to have a totally random door policy that varies from match to match. For the West Ham game a few days later they were letting blues in with colours no problem. It could be a tactic for European games though and it might not just be down to the bar because we went in there prior to the semi against Real last season. It was mainly Real fans bouncing round and having a good time in the pissing rain with us lot having a good craic and a sing-off with them. Suddenly, the police turned up and said they wanted all the City fans out of there even though there was no trouble whatsoever. We refused to budge then the next minute the pub stopped serving and all the City and Real fans drank up and fucked off. My mate asked a copper what it was all about and we got some tale about it being to do with the Slask Wroclaw fans attacking the Sevilla fans outside there several months earlier. What the fuck that has to do with City v Real Madrid and City v Steaua Bucharest is beyond me.

I was in there for the Real game too, when the singing started.
Its the inconsistency that does my head in, sometimes pubs let you in and sometimes they don't

It varies usually due to the Manager/Licensee and who they want in there.
Some days we've allowed shirts,
Other days it's been simply used as an "excuse" as they don't want a gang of lads in there... So rather than saying: "I don't like the look of you"
It causes less aggro just to say no trainers or something.

Best bet is to go in single/pairs, avoid being in groups, no colours, hiding football tattoos and avoid wearing certain associated Hooly brands such as stone island, Fila, Adidas sambas etc...

Many of the lads who work on the doors in town are Blues, area managers I've met for a few of the biggest firms which run the doors are Blues...its nothing prejudicial against us, it's just some of the licensees/managers in bars in town are pretentious middle class cretins stuck up their own assess who would rather sell expensive cocktails to Chinese tourists than say a full round of Carling to working class mancunians

You know me Ste, and I was with Mrs sf and had on a white t shirt with a small badge on
Hardly hooligan material

Cheers for the replies chaps! I might try printworks, don't usually like it in there though! Not bothered about the trouble I find if your looking for it you will find it! I won't be wearing colours and I'll be meeting both city and united mates after game who have gone, I don't mode united fans who go, it's the go shites who will be in these pubs at a home game who boil my piss!

I always found the Rising Sun near the town hall a decent footie pub. 50/50 blue red. Bit cramped but never had any trouble.

Been about 5 years since I've been in though so I'd check they've still got a telly first!

I know bud, I'd let you in but the doorman probably didn't as he would've already refused entry to people who are visible footy fans... To then let you in would come across as hypocritical.
And maybe then the bar manager is chewing his ear asking why is there someone sat down wearing a football t-shirt.

It's daft, and anyone with common sense knows fans who are wearing colours n that are the least likely to cause any hassle.

Needs to be more clarity about which venues welcome football fans and so on as our city is such a big footballing capital.

Example last week in Bury, we were instructed by police to tell any Port Vale fans to head to Wyldes bar, giving them directions, whereas Bury fans were welcomed into our venue.
Clear separation, policing operation, no trouble....

Pie and Ale might not be a bad shout. I will be watching in Failsworth.

im in levenshulme with some friends when the games on, can anyone recommend any good pubs to watch it in ? or close ones.

Have watched City on TV (not derbies) in town itself on a few occasions, and have either found the atmosphere dead or overly raggish, depending on how important the game is to the league. Tend to find a lot of rags travel up to Piccadilly and then hang around in town, presumably they can't get a ticket so just go for a day out. Would certainly advise caution of you do choose to watch in town, you may find a lot of their fans are day trippers and won't give two thoughts to starting something then running for the train. Last place I watched a game was at the Town Hall Tavern, West Brom, my wife was expecting any day with me on standby, she was meeting friends for a hen do/afternoon tea round the corner. Anyway, were more rags in there cheering on our opponents than anything, they all disappeared after 70 minutes when we scored the winner.

Have you thought about watching just outside of town, at one of the pubs the supporters clubs gather at? Usually a good choice in my experience. Used to watch at the Nelson in Didsbury on away derby days, but think they lost their telly 'license' last year?

Was great in there on derby day - all blues except the one old boy red who is one of the only rags I have ever been able to stomach and could take a defeat as well as a win (he actually said well done boys, great to watch, after the 6-1), and if we won you could see the red pub opposite emptying as full time approached as the rags all did one to get home early - thta always spoke to me of their base need to win, win, win, rather than just enjoy the ride. Not us lot though, win or lose on the booze, and Nelly karaoke to top it off. Remember traffic being stopped by celebrating blues and the police having to have a word on more than one occasion.

Actually watched last years or the one before at the pub round the corner, The Fletcher Moss, but that was around 50/50 thanks to a heavy didsbury student contingent shouting on Rooney & Co in very non-manc accents.

I've watched a few OT derbies at Mary D's. Was always a decent atmosphere.

Any more thoughts on Mary D's? I've never been in when City aren't at home.

Interested to hear there's often mither in town. Never seen it in Middleton and there's about a 50/50 split in my new home of Failsworth. We all know each other.

You may want to be careful where you watch the match FW. Baldy Bobs, Dutch Birds, and the Sun will be full of rags. We get plenty of raggy visitors on Derby day from other areas with no pubs.

I don't use any of those. You'll find me in The Bricklayers, Last Orders or The Willow. Older crowds and we all know each other.

The regulars are adamant there's no trouble.
