with the prospect of pompey taking a uefa spot, then that will leave only 2 other slots for europa cup qualification.

if liverpool or fulham win the europa cup, then that will only leave 5th place.

so european football is definately not in the bag yet.

I hear you mate and thats being realistic but man ill be gutted now if we dont take 4th.

ITs in our hands now. I believe we can do it.

Fulham and Liverpool wont win the Europa Cup and Portsmouth wont be allowed in Europe whilst in administration!!

And anyway we will be in the Champions League!!

-- Tue Apr 13, 2010 11:02 am --

Manure won the Carling Cup so doesnt that free up another Europa place anyway?

Begining of the season i would have been over the bluemoon if someone had told me we would finish sixth...but now i will be gutted if we don`t come fourth

BELIEVE....C.T.I.D.

imagine if Liverpool only finished 6th and weren't in Europe at all?

Relax

Pompey can't get into Europe as they don't have a UEFA licence whilst in admin so if they or Chelsea win the FA Cup that UEFA place goes to 7th with 6th having already been guaranteed a spot by virtue of the Rags winning the Carling Cup

The Europa League winner goes straight into the group stages of the following year's competition only if they don't qualify as of right (via league position).

As the rags have won the CC, 6th place definitely gets in and assuming Pompey are ineligible then 7th should get it as well. If Liverpool win the Europa League and finish 7th or higher then they're in anyway.

However if Fulham win it (who are unlikely to finish in the top 7) then they get in alongside the teams finishing 5th, 6th & 7th.

If, by some fluke, Pompey win the FA Cup and are allowed to enter the following season's Europa League then only 5th & 6th will definitely qualify. If Liverpool finish 7th and win the EL then they'll also get a spot, as would Fulham if they were to win it.

just read somewhere on that pompey thread that now cup final between chelsea and pompey europa will go to 7th place. it also says that the winners of europa qualify to so we could have 4 teams in europa next year, if Fulham win it. To be honest i have no idea how qualification works, so if pool finish in top 7 and win europa does that mean 3 teams qualify or does it go to 8th........... Grr

-- Tue Apr 13, 2010 12:24 pm --

You just answered my question PB

Cheers for the heads up but unfortuantly i still cant make head or tail of it

We'll finish 4th, so no stress there.

What I'd personally love is for Portsmouth to win the cup and succesfully appeal to get into Europa, leaving only 5th and 6th, and for Villa to win their games in hand leaving Liverpool 7th and not getting into Europe at all (unless they win Europa). That would be piss funny!

In fact, thinking about it - Portsmouth don't even need to win it - Chelsea are already in Europe it's safe to assume, si the FA cup spot goes to the runners up if they win it - all we need is a succesful Pompey appeal and Liverpool to finish 7th and not win Europa!
