Manchester City's Vincent Kompany insists that they were a bit tired going into the Community Shield.

Manchester United came from two goals down to seal a 3-2 win over their city rivals at Wembley on Sunday. Kompany, though, feels that any issues City had against United can be put down to their tough pre-season.

"We were a bit tired, pre-season has been long and heavy and you are looking to be at your best at the beginning of the season and we will be," he told Sky Sports News. "As I said the result could have gone either way, we have shown we are not normally the sort of side who concedes goals once we are all set."

Kompany's own error led to the winner as he failed to clear on the halfway line as Nani broke and scored. He added: "It happens, if you are a centre-half with a lot of responsibility but you have to take it - that is what football is all about."

How the fuck can we be tired pre-season, when the rags looked like they were full of energy and running? Something seriously wrong at the club if that's the case.

Just a thought but maybe the rags saw this as their first 'proper' game of the season whereas we didnt.

During pre season a team is put through intensive training in certain times, you never know that one of them periods may have been last week, no matter who you are this will be in the system and therefore made us look a bit "leggy". You then have a period of cooling off prior to the season, this may be this week.

The big picture is the game against Swansea on Monday, not against the Rags yesterday. It wasn't the be all and end all to win yesterday, let them have the moment of glory this pre-season, its this weekend and onwards that counts

Exactly. Clubs don't prepare for pre season games in the same way as league games. They don't taper off the training in the days leading up to the match to make sure the team are fresh.

The fact that we treated yesterday as a pre season friendly and didnt change our conditioning regime is something of a positive, we didnt overstate the importance of the game just because it was United.

I hate the fucking tired excuse. DId the scum looked tired? did they fuck, they chased every ball like it was for the champions league, not the community shield. I train about 9 times a week as well as competing in races 1-2 times a week. I don't complain about tiredness. It's ridiculous, I believe footballers are fitter than me, so why are they feeling tired from a 90 minute match? Even mid way through season they shouldn't be feeling tired. It's a shit excuse.

Yes and I bet you win every race, run against top class athletes and appear on telly at every golden league meet. And before the money card is used its all relative. Its pre-season, training can be tiring and Utd are clearly a week ahead of us in the preparation, maybe the Barcelona game gave them that edge?

Why would I run at the golden league? I primarily stick to the fells. What has the class of athlete I run against got to do with anything? My point is I train hard all week round as well as competing twice a week. I son't then complain about tiredness. These are professional athletes with the best medical hlep available. Pre season tiredness should not be an issue.

You don't understand that preseason is very hard and is about gearing up to be fit come the first game of the season?

It's the same with any sport. I used to row for great Britain and in the weeks coming up to a big race, the training would be very intense, so much so that we were well off "race pace", then it would drop off just before to ensure we were at our best when it was needed, not a week before.

If he'd said that after the first game proper then I would agree with you, but it seems you don't understand the physicality of preseason.

I just logged on 5 minutes ago and the first two threads i see are "Kompany is a twat" and "Silva is shit".

Time to log off now.
I can only assume these people are 12 years old, or at least have that mental age.

For adults (who have actually managed to master the use of a computer) to be so absurdly idiotic and reactionary is simultaneously depressing and hilarious.

What can you do but point, laugh, then ignore?

I have toyed with the idea of mass culling...

The last pre season game is probably the most tired the players will be all season, it means they have been training hard which will pay dividend later on in the season. Maybe you have to understand how pre season training works to understand Vincent Kompany's comments, the OP obviously does not.
Enlighten us then.
No! go and find out how it works for yourself.
I already know cheers, I just have my doubts that you do.

Let's just hope "the big race" doesn't fall sometime in October then.

Unfortunately, the fact that a very well seasoned manager like Whiskey Nose has his players fully fit and rearing to go on Community Shield day suggests that that's probably something that should be done.

But like you say, next week's when it starts. Solid win then and I'll back your theory ;-P

I do understand about pre-season training and that it's about building up. But this is delusion on the RAWK scale.

City don't play every few months it will be more like twice a week.

It isn't like putting in your hard training then resting a week before, it is not like they have to peak 4 or 5 times a year.

If they wanted to rest before the season then they should have played the EDS.

Didn't notice it when at the match but got 4 textes (2 from city, 1 from united and 1 Blackburn) who all said we looked tired. Got home and watched it back and we did look tired, which is worrying a week away from Swansea.

It wasn't an excuse.

The Rags had friendly/testimonial matches every few days a game before the Community Shield.

Strange you didnt put the Utd v Marseille game on 2 Aug in which Wellbeck, Smalling, Park, Cleverley Jones all played! They were battered 8-2. You sound like a rag!
