Web Design?

Definitely learn the HTML and Javascript. Basic languages but understanding them is much like understanding how your car works. If you get problems with source code then you'll know where to look.

the w3schools webiste is a great resource. If you want to look at getting some kind of qualification, then the OU do a certificate for web design. I haven't done it myself but I have covered some of the modules that count towards it and I'd recommend them as a god place to study if you're working full time. Give us a shout if you need any info.

I know a few people in the industry and what you said is spot on mate. Although with dreamweaver its not so much frowned upon as a lot of designers like to use it just to save time really. I know a few that use it when first writing a website then preform the real coding later. I'm on a web design course at uni at the moment and our lecturer said pretty much what you said apart from the dreamweaver bit.

But if you wanna make any real money in the industry you need to learn how to create database driven sites, which is learning PHP/ASP etc. It's not too difficult to learn the basics, but unless you can do this your websites will be very limited.

True, i forgot to mention that. PHP/SQl are only get more important as more companys offer online shops. Great time to be in the delivery buisness with people searching the web for the best deal nowadays

Learn PHP.

I am beginning to think that this is the language that God created the Universe in, or at least the front end of it.

SQL you can pick up in about 20 seconds, PHP is full of nooks and crannies that will keep you going for a while.
Learn how HTTP works.
Learn what GET and POST is, and what they do.
LEARN EVERYTHING ABOUT XSS, REMOTE CODE VULNERABILITIES AND SQL INJECTION.

I'm partially convinced that anybody who knows about GET/POST, SELECT/INSERT/UPDATE/DELETE in SQL, and a few hours on PHP can build any site on the planet.
