Hoping to book a short trip away somewhere local, preferably in Lancashire or Yorkshire, but anywhere we can get a direct train from Manchester in under an hour's fine. What we're looking for is a quiet village or small town with a few good pubs which sell craft ale or real ale, a couple of nice places to eat, staying in a nice but relatively affordable B&B.

Can anyone recommend anywhere they've visited?

Clitheroe?

Hebden?

Knaresborough?
All a good call, no idea about trains so it's a tough one, I'd look at where you can get a direct train to and ask if the place is any good I'm sure you'll get some good feedback

Clitheroe and Hebden direct from Vic,Knaresborough change Leeds

Chesterfield. Just over an hour away and an absolute mecca for real ale. Nice enough place, cheap and not full of knobs. Loads of great proper boozers in the town centre or you could try the Brampton mile pub crawl.
