All I'm trying to do is lose the last layer of fat from around my stomach and back so my abs are showing.

Advice please

Change your diet...

To what?
I eat pretty much as heathily as I can, brown pasta, brown rice, brown bread, no processed foods, nearly all white meat, very rarely eat a takeaway, only have a few beers at the weekend and not that many
I don't skip meals and don't eat at silly times. I drink loads of water. I train in the gym three times a week, play five a side once a week and squash once a week.
I'm fit enough, it's just losing that stubborn bit of fat.

I've highlighted the answer.

Your carbohydrates are clean enough fella but you may be eating more carbs than your body can break down resulting in fat increase.

Beer isn't clean, i know you say you dont drink alot but put it this way: i dont drink at all, and i still have that layer of fat around my stomach... so drinking every weekend, your units mount up over the month.

You want that sixpack look, you gotta make sacrifices, me myself i don't mind the way my body looks, i'm more worried about its performance and when i had a lower body fat percentage i didn't perform as well in my sports, felt regularly tired and dehydrated... YAYE my body looked good, come on i could easily photoshop that 8pack into my pics...
