I think this is a good move for all parties involved. As a Rangers fan (City, of course, are a very close second) it's great for us. We have no money and not a lot of depth. Weiss, in the cameos we've seen from him, seems to be better than average. And the guys only 20 so he can still improve.
I think Mancini rates him as well. I was down for the friendly against Valencia and he got a run out. Surely he wouldn't if the boy was going nowhere at City?
It's good for him for obvious reasons. We've been signing geezers left, right and centre so he's far down the pecking order and, since he seems to be on the fringes of the first team, has little to gain by playing in the reserves. he can get good first team football.
It's good for City because he's playing regularly in the SPL which is a physical league to play in. I know the SPL gets ridiculed for a perceived lack of quality but it's really not that bad. Rangers and Celtic could both win the Championship, and I think Dundee United would do well in that division as well.
As well, he'll gain some vital experience by playing in Europe which almost makes up for not playing in the Premiership.
So everybody wins.
I don't want to join this forum and start talking about other teams but I have to make a defence of Rangers here. I wasn't in Manchester myself because I was at university doing exams on the day of the Final so can't say with honesty that everything was fine. But friends of mine said that some guy took a mic when the screens went down and started swearing at the crowd.
When I visited Manchester last year, I stayed at the Novotel on Dickinson Street. As we were checking in we had a conversation with the receptionist who was a sound guy (despite being a United fan!) and asked who we supported. I replied "probably shouldn't say this around here...but Rangers". His exact words to me were "Well I was working here that day and never saw anything. I didn't hear of any trouble...just people on the streets pissed...which is to be expected. So all the stuff you hear about...as far as I'm concerned...it never happened".
Also went to the gay village one night (I'm not that way inclined...but it was the only area on a Wednesday that I could find a bar open after 12pm!) and a couple of guys we met said they were walking home from work on that day. It was loud and noisy and boozey...but no trouble.
So it seems like the media running with a story. Of course, there were pictures of 20 odd guys that were released saying they were wanted but come on...of 100,000+ people that's really not a bad ratio.
Celtic fans habitually glorify the IRA. After their disgusting attacks in Manchester...I don't think I can blame many folk down your way who hate that club.
