Welcome Donnarumma!

100% agree.

Trafford fits our system - very capable on the ball and an excellent shot stopper. He fits our system.

But now we've signed Donnarumma who is average on the ball, and is, on his day, the best or second best at stopping goals.
You obviously don't watch much live football. Trafford is a good young player but he is absolutely not good on the ball. I have seen him live in the last three matches. Donnarumma is one of the best keepers in the world. Pep is slowly changing City's style to be more direct. He started it last season, even playing Haaland and Marmoush close to each other up front in several matches. The new City are a work in progress. Donnarumma is also a huge character on the pitch who will give more confidence to our defence.

?
I wrote this post because at the time it wasn't 100% certain that Donnarumma would be in our side.

As to why I'm upset... I think I've made my objections clear.
But you posted it after he had signed. Did you draft it out beforehand? And I meant him being upset not you, as it was as if you’d wrote to him personally.

Why oh why couldn't Pep train Joe Hart into this ability?

Why?

Because most of it is due to inborn ability - neither Hart nor Donnarumma are ever going to be gifted on the ball.
I’m not arguing with someone who believes in eugenics.

Joe Hart didn’t want to learn.

We’ve signed the best goalkeeper in the world. United have signed the equivalent of Andy Dibble. And you’re whining like a little bitch. Grow up.

There's abundant evidence to identify Donnarumma's strengths and weaknesses.

And acting as an 11th man on field - passing the ball deftly even under pressure - that's what we need - and that's not at all in Donnarumma's wheel house.

He seemed to be ok at it for PSG? Whereas for Trafford there’s absolutely no evidence yet he can play with his feet at the top level.

Donnarumma isn’t Ederson (no keeper is!) but stats show that he’s at least Allison level with his feet - and no one here would say no to Allison.

Not only that but Donnarumma is a better goalkeeper around than most as well. Even better than Allison at shot stopping.

I don’t know - maybe you’d rather we put Rico Lewis in goal? He’s a decent passer after all.

Out of all of the positions we needed a goalkeeper wasn't that important, you don't sign a young keeper for that amount of money and then install a keeper above him for possibly 6 years.

Now I like Donnarumma and I am happy we have got him but something about the Trafford situation doesn't ring right, I will bet he's off out on loan again before long.

We could argue whether that’s true or not in terms of needing Donnarumma but it wasn’t an either/or situation for a new right back.

I agree fully that right back is hideously overlooked, but I just don’t see what it has to do with signing a goalkeeper. We aren’t tight on PSR that would prevent us doing both.

Well that's your opinion - and I 100% disagree.

I will say this - Donnarumma is an excellent shot stopper who is not good on the ball at all. In the right side, he'd realize his potential. In our side... he's a misfit.

If you can't see this - then I'll throw your opening line back on you. "You obviously don't watch much live football."

Trafford will be sold next year 100%, World Cup year, he’s signed thinking he’s going to be number 1 and we have absolutely fucked him over.

Can’t blame the club for jumping on the worlds best goalkeeper but I think we could even see him go in January, considering Ortega hasn’t gone.

Part of a swap deal for Livaremento in January perhaps?

Rumours about Eddie leaving were dismissed ahead of the CWC. Trafford signed presumably expecting Ederson to still be here. His alternative offer was at Newcastle where he would have presumed Pope would be number 1.

He will have signed for more money, more chances to win things and at 22 I can't see he was expecting to rock up to a top club and be their number 1. The Donnarumma signing has an impact because he is entering his peak years, but if things don't work out Trafford will leave with the benefit of working with the best and earning more than he did at Burnley too.

Don't think he will be as gutted as you think.

And you've no clue.

Donnarumma has evolved into a world class shot stopper. His distribution is better than Joe Hart's... but that is the best compliment I can pay for him in this regard.

Donnarumma isn't a sweeper - isn't a gifted passer - he's a David de Gea... and on huge wages (presumably).

So we start with a David de Gea-like keeper - with our ball retention system - play it from the back - use the keeper as an additional player...

This has disaster written all over it.
In the corresponding fixtures last year, we conceded SEVEN goals against our next 2 opponents.

I'd suggest buying the best GK in the world (for £40m less than the dippers bought Alisson) might make a bit of a difference this time round.

Best signing of the window for me.

I'll tell you where all this negativity about Donnarumma stems from is that smug twat Julien Laurens.

Ever since Donnarumma had the terminity to turn down a contract extension(A contract which is LOWER than what he was on) from his beloved PSG he's gone out of his way to slag Donnarumma off.

And when it became clear we were only club in for him he whored himself out to any UK media outlet telling them how shit he is.

This has been picked up by the media and everyone is questioning Donnarumma in the UK press. It's even seeped into this forum.

The amount of negativity on here about the lad is fucking insane.

We've got a world class keeper for under £30M. Thats an absolute steal

Donnarumma is OK on the ball.

PSG adapted to this to carry him. The stats for Donnarumma's passing ability reflect this.

PSG were able to carry him because they had world class right and left backs and center backs - and they adapted there system to cope.

Ultimately PSG decided to move on from Donnarumma - on huge wages and not good on the ball - and now we have him - presumably on huge wages, not good on the ball, and we don't have the backfield to compensate given that we play form the back.

I have watched City at more than 100 different stadiums in the past 50 years and seen a lot of different goalkeepers. You are just here to try and wind people up. Your opinion seems to be based on social media memes from rival fans. I prefer the evidence of my own eyes.

I just believe we didn't need a goalkeeper and we desperately needed a full back. This is of course a stellar signing and without a full back he's going to have to be good.

The minute he shouts at Lewis Pep will have him on the subs bench in no time ;-)

The negativity surrounding this transfer is baffling.
It’s bad enough hearing it from the media, more annoying reading it on here.
We’ve replaced a keeper that no longer wanted to be here for a world class keeper for £14m.
A keeper that’s currently one of the best in the world.
Complete madness.
Welcome Gigi.
