Welcome Nico Gonzalez

Would you play him at Orient? I think that might depend on Pep's plans for Real Madrid.

I think the midfield that started at Arsenal is what we play vs Real Madrid. We lost that game not because of the midfield but because we conceded stupid and unlucky goals, and then we lost our shape and spirit. Partly because of the subs. I think it's very high risk to play new players vs Real Madrid. It will be a difficult call for Pep.

What kind of player is this lad? Will he be considered a Bernie type or a Kev type?
Box to box? From memory he has 5 goals from 17 league appearances which suggests he is box to box rather than a sitting player. Foden, Marmoush and Bernardo are very technical and agile players but you need power too.

I think that's what's wrong with some peoples analysis of City. They see City conceding 4 and 5 goals vs PSG and Arsenal and assume that we are massively off it, but I think we only need 2-3 players which we now have. Plus a right back. But it will take time for these players to settle now.

Nice character. Bernardo and the Brazilians will look after him. I don't know when we will see him on the pitch but there are plenty of games coming up.

I might be wrong, but I think he is more developed than Rodri was when he joined City. He also has the so-called 'clutch gene' which says something about his mentality. The last time I was this excited about a new signing was when Haaland was signed. Hopefully he's as successful as Haaland has been. There's a lot of pressure on his young shoulders, I pray he is able to handle it.

We are indeed in a transitional season. So many new players. In a January window. So not our style and a sign that we have had a few poor windows like Txiki stated in the last documentary.

I patiently await the outcome this season or more likely next season. Happy with new signings obviously but not jumping up and down yet. I’ve learned to wait and see. Even Rodri took a year and he was not the only City player needing time.

I think there is not much that indicates Nico is more developed or better than what Rodri was when he joined City. Rodri already had caps for Spain, was playing in a better league and was a key player in Atletico Madrid, a team much better than today's version of Porto.
With that said, Nico will have more possibilities to have an immediate impact since its "a bit" easier to break into todays midfield than having to outperform a player like Fernandinho. I hope Nico is up for it!

Our team has been hit hard by losing Rodri and by the decline in physicality of KDB and Gundogan. So there has been a cry for a more physical presence in midfeld, not necessarily a sitting midfelder. Rodri was capable of sitting and breaking forward (CL final). I have never seen Gonzalez play other than Youtube summaries. He looks like a box to box player with a physical presence who is at the same time technically good. That's ideal for what we need given that we have Kovacic.

Three of Arsenal's goals were stupid mistakes, the most annoying of the lot Phil's ridiculous pass after we'd equalised, no idea what he was thinking. Heads dropped immediately after their second goal, simply unacceptable

The one thing that gives me confidence that this wasn’t a last minute panic buy and that we had him in our sights for a while are his comments ‘that this last week was very stressful’ in the clip released on the official site.

I’ve really no idea how good he is…..but the fact that he has a physicality about him compared to what we currently have, means we have to plan for him to start against Madrid…..we cannot pick any combination of what we already had available.

Although we had a fairly decent opening 60 minutes against Arsenal which were decimated by various mistakes….we should not forget the capitulation later in the game which mirrored many previous games this season.

Yep, exactly what I've been saying ...... it's happened far too often this season.

Brighton, Sporting, Juventus, PSG, Liverpool .... now Arsenal too .... we were on the floor at the end of all of them!

I think he will play some part as will Khusanov if only to give Akaji/Stones some time off, hopefully Diad or Ake will get some minutes.

Wasn't Phil looking for a quick, counter attacking ball to catch Arsenal out, whilst they were on the offensive ?
It was a very risky ball that did not pay off.
But, could Stones have attacked the ball quicker, which would probably have stopped Partey shooting ?
Partey doesn't often score, so he must have been confident there was enough time to shoot...

Which website @twosips is using when he is comparing players ?

The one the shows Duels% ...etc

This one mate!

Is he likely to hugely raise City's level in his first serious game? I am not sure about this question. Orient might give us a clue.

On the BBC gossip page

Is this right

Barcelona missed out on receiving £8.5m from the sale of Porto's Spanish midfielder Nico Gonzalez, 23, to Manchester City, because the Portuguese club paid the Catalan side a £2.5m fee to halve the sell-on clause. (ESPN)

I thought the reason the hold-up was about the sell-on fee that Barcelona had at 20%

I've seen it elsewhere (Sky?) but don't ask me to explain it.
