Welcome to City Maximo Perrone

payment terms.
Yes but that is not the main reason I think. the main reason is to have a good future relationship with the argentine club. valez seems like it is becoming the best academy in argentina in addition to river and boca. so it is a good gesture for developing him. if the same player was from benfica they will easily ask 40 mil before he even makes the first team debut. the only reason the players are cheap in argentina is because of the economy I heard. so maybe we will give them a couple more million to maintain good relationship with the club.

Why would we pay more than the release clause in his contract?

a. We could spread the spend to a smaller amount over several seasons. This would help with FFP.
b. We could develop a better relationship with the selling club.

Say we agree €10m instead of €8m but instead of it all up front it's:
€2m up front
€2m in 1 year
€2m in 2 years
€2m in 3 years
€2m in add-ons

Leaves us with just a tiny loss over several different years' accounts. That and Velez get more of a fee, and will be more receptive to doing business with us in future.

Wouldn't make any difference to ffp how long we pay over.

Pretty sure we have used this tactic before with signings although I.m not sure it helps with FFP .
