Welcome To Manchester 1997

There's some on ebay ("Manchester City away shirt 1997"). But, steel yourself before you go on there; they ain't cheap!
Cheers mate,i bet they aren’t!! i can still remember giving mine away to a bar owner in gran canaria in 2001, :(

Thank you. Had a biopsy so just waiting really, hit home putting my son to bed and then my mum ringing me thinking at was 7am. They both need me to be here...

Back to blond bombshells - yes it does sound like i had a type doesn't it! But no, i think i was that bit too young, it was the 86 youth cup final pic in the May 86 programme that hooked me in with a bare chested Hinchcliffe when he was young and blond (i know, but we didn't know what he'd grown up into!).

Gerard Wiekens is bald now i think, like my other half - maybe i DO have a type ;)
Good Luck Kk,...it sounds like you deserve it.

Top quality back then Kappa and Made in Italy too. Not like today where pretty much all shirts are made in Vietnam etc.

Still have mine to this day. Luckily bought it 90’s style as in huge. Still fits and wear it at least once a week playing footy…often with people younger than my shirt!

Kappa one was well made, unlike the eidos shirt the following season - bought it on a matchday, when I got in the Kippax opened the packet in the loos to put it in (as they were sold in packets back then) and the white sleeves fell off! the mini shop in the Kippax didn't have shirts so they let me back out to go and get it swapped!

The fumes from the Kippax bogs would have eroded even the best stitching ;-)

I had quite a thing for Gerard Wiekens, me and my sister used to get autographs and photos in the car park, to the extent that when he was a guest on city square a few years ago and i walked past him he stopped and said "i know you" - oops!
'OMG, Wiekens, I know him!!'
Seriously, a very decent defender for the level we were at in those days,( and I didn't realise he played so many times for us..) He certainly, quite rightly isn't roped in with some of the absolute donkeys we had in those days.
However ,maybe he is also not regarded as 'iconic' as the likes of Dickov, Morrison, The Goat, Super Kev, in getting us pulled out of the shite. Also, who can forget the 'lump foward' that led to Dickov's goal.(Pep wouldn't approve!)
Comes across as a decent guy, talks about how passionate the City fans were in those days (in a good and bad way to be fair!) and his sons apparently are big blues. Oh, and that kit still looks good all these years on, can't they that about all old kits.

Can't say, not they! Have to add Weaver to that little list ofcourse .

Surprising to hear all these positive comments on the 97-99 Kappa shirt, my recollections from the time was that there was a backlash about the blue not being light enough in colour, or have I just imagined that?

No, you're right. Lots of indignation about that colour. "Lazer Blue". I didn't think it was THAT bad, but it was considerably darker than our traditional sky blue. The design was very nice, and it would have looked great in sky blue.

Messed up the quote system there - but just wanting to say in my defence i was just walking past city square as he was leaving it and he's the one who stopped me and said "i know you don't i"!! At least 10 years on from him leaving city ;)

Good bloke though, like you say an underrated player who did a good job for us.
