Welcome To Manchester 1997

Love these kits.
I’ve still got the home one. I’ve also got the tracksuit top and cagoule. Still look quite rascal in it in this day of retro kappa being hipster.
Luckily all still fits as I was 6ft 5 when I was in my teens.

1997 summer signings Gerard Wiekens, Lee Bradbury & Tony Vaughan arrive at Maine Road sporting City's new kit manufactures Kappa home shirt.

Wasn’t a container of the new kits broken into in Trafford Park before it came up. There were a few blues walking around with the new shirt before it actually got released.

Lovely kit, shit team but great memories. My favourite time supporting city by a mile. The black humour, the togetherness of the fans, taking over tiny grounds and the surrounding pubs. The hatred of the rags, their corporatism and all that they stood for. Maine Road was magic. For all the success, I miss those days.

Can remember the queue outside the souvenir shop for these the day they came out. And the guests on Soccer AM, when it was good, gushing over the home one.

Kappa. The cool clubs had Kappa.

Loved the kit and still got the white away one. Didn't Kappa drop us at the first opportunity because they didn't want to be associated with failure ?

Considering who they supplied for at the time, can’t blame them.

1997.

Went to pre season friendly season at Mansfield. Beat them 7-0 ( I think). Told my wife “City are on their way this season”
I went to that game, stood behind the goal and I think it might have been Nicky Weaver's first appearance for us? I can't remember the score either.

They were expanding into less mainstream teams they thought may have a cool/edgy element like Sparta, Bilboa and Betis, not just the Juve/Barca flagships. City were already poor when Kappa did the deal, and we got shut of them after being promoted as LCS was more lucrative.
