Wow that's aggressive with the message. Just so you know mate, I've taken ad block off and the load times increase significantly. Site is lightening fast without the ads and I appreciate its revenue and it keeps it free, they can be and often are a real irritation for many.

I for one would have no issue in subscribing to a site i use as much and enjoy.

It isn't our load times so there's little we can do about it. The ads are loaded from an external source.

I point this out quite often because it really is important - every single page load you do on any website costs money. Ads are there because they will pay for that page load. If you block the ads they don't pay for it and Ric has to pay it out of his own pocket. Subscriptions are fine but ultimately unreliable and the architecture of the site has to be based around a reliable source, and the problem has always been that it can create a two tier user system. Would mods handle a subbed user differently from a normal one? Would a subbed user feel more entitled to have their view supported in decisions than normal users? I don't know the answer to those questions but I would suggest that for some people the answer would be yes which wouldn't really be in the spirit of the forum.

If you want to help Bluemoon then putting up with extra second or two of page load is by far the best option

There seem to be different options for how the message is displayed, so I'll have a play around with it and see what is best. In the meantime, I've switched it off.

Adblock is increasingly an issue which has to be addressed though. With Adblock switched on it's effectively costing us money for every page you visit, and that's unsustainable if large numbers are using it.

Subscriptions isn't really a route we want to go down, as you create a hierarchy of users (those who have paid vs those who haven't) which can be problematic.

I will make a brew in between pages loading from now on ;-)

Can Damo not play with the software so that a page doesn't load at all if ad block is present?

That way you will never be out of pocket mate.

Strange, I have an Ad block installed (Bluemoon is whitelisted obviously) and the new forum is really quick regardless. I'm using https://chrome.google.com/webstore/...om?utm_source=chrome-app-launcher-info-dialog on Chrome.

That said we do get the occasional false positives for ad blockers at work (different website of course).

Clearing your cache & cookies wouldn't hurt by the way.
