Conceding goals starts with the forwards and feeds down to the defence. I think this is a bit of a daft award, a token gesture if you like. Teams could miss loads of chances against us, our defenders could block loads of shots or stop lots of crosses, or our midfielders could keep possession away from the opposition not allowing them to have many shots.

Joe's a good keeper, not taking owt away, but it's a team effort to not concede goals.

What about the golden boot then? A goal scored is a team effort as well - so is that a daft award also?

Sort of, but goals are scored directly by an individual by kicking the ball into the net. A keeper can have nothing to do all game and keep a clean sheet. I've watched Bayern München a fair bit this season and I reckon that in about seven or eight games Neuer hasn't had one single save to make.
