Wembley desire

Funny enough I went to Villa Park against Chelsea in the Shield and it was dreadful getting away. Wembley is actually more convenient albeit further away, but it does take the glamour off.

That was a mare, took us as long to get back home from there than it would have from Wembley,I agree

Nobody came out with any credit. I remember Zabba getting sent off and thinking we're fucked, then that big ginger fucker coming on as the tannoy announced four minutes of injury time. I thought maybe we could hang on until penalties when bang the header went in and that was that.
From what I understand, something severe was said in Friday’s team meeting and the players just didn’t turn up at Wembley. Mancini’s sacking was brought forwards.

We are the modern history in the place.

The pre-game Poznań against United
Yaya Touré’s goal that changed the face of Manchester football
Yaya Touré’s goal that won us our first trophy for a generation
Agüero’s two-footed tackle on Luiz
Having the biggest attendance for one set of fans there
Losing to relegated Wigan
Yaya Touré’s wonder goal (the best at that stadium?)
Winning four EFL Cup finals in a row (and five in six years)
Capping a historic domestic quadrupole by winning the FA Cup final in 2019
Winning the FA Cup final by a joint all-time record score
Being the first set of fans back in a stadium after Covid lockdowns

Wembley is the Etihad South.

A Wembley trip should never just be seen as a novelty. Our players certainly don’t. Just because we’ve been 15+ times doesn’t mean we shouldn’t support lads who’ve never played for us there before in the same manner we supported those there in our first trip to that new stadium in 2011. Our players always need every one of us supporting them in those games.

Plus you never know when a particular trip might be our last for a long time, or might be our last ever. For all we know, our next trip there might be in another fifteen years or more. Never take it for granted.

It’s not better on tele either. I didn’t go to the EFL Cup final against Spurs and while I obviously liked the win I disliked watching it on tele. And we miss proper fans being there when they don’t go. We don’t have hauds of fans to take the place of our hardcore when we decide not to go. We have quite an apathetic fanbase when it comes to things like Wembley because there isn’t a big away day culture within our fanbase due to the way our loyalty points system has just locked the same people into going to away games for so many years (other fanbases have a much more rounded away day culture across their fanbases than we do), so when our core support don’t go, others don’t bother so we’re left with tourists or empty seats.

So where I’ve said I’ll not go to any semis anymore, I probably will because the players do need us.

I genuinely admire your passion for the modern game mate. I'm just an FOC who doesn't have the patience for all the razzamatazz and nonsense that goes on around Wembley matches.
Other than the 90/120 minutes of the match itself, a visit to Wembley stadium has absolutely no interest to me whatsoever. It's just another expensive, over-polished turd of a place.

Away game culture died when 'pay on the gate' was stopped and all-seater stadiums arrived. Thanks to the scousers....
