Were you any good at football at school?

Never played at any decent level, just school teams and the Manchester Youth Leagues from 5yr old....
I stopped playing at 12 as I told the manager to fuck off and walked off the pitch (he would always scream at every kid to pass to the Messi of the team)

I played defensive midfielder roles usually, and also right & left back.

Didn't like the experience of parents and the "coaches" being ultra competitive, plying their Jimmy Grimble dreams through their children. I was just happy playing footy, win lose or Draw.

That's why I went into Muay Thai a few months later after quitting, as it wasn't all about winning, and more about learning.

I was at Unicorn when Adie was at Flixton and Giggs (Wilson) was at Deans. If you were born in 74 and played with/against these 2 I played against you. At the time a few of our Unicorn teams (including mine) were trained at Platt Lane by Thommo and Gus as it was considered a feeder club. Worsleyweb, I played against Daz Campbell for years when he was at Ashton Villa.

I must know you I played for Stretford Vics

Played keeper at High School for seven years. Think we won about twice, but I made the job look less that glamorous which cemented my place in the team as I was the only one prepared to do it!

Decided to play hockey at Uni - that was a lot more fruitful, but did get back between the sticks for an Old Boys game a couple of years back. We won on penalties, I saved 2 and scored one...I celebrated Weaver-style!

My footballing career is between the years 1965-1990:

I was a shit but a strong defender who was super fit, put a real tackle in, and could run all day.

I played all across the back four with equal qualities of shitness (negative) and strength (positive).

I couldn't play footie to save my life, but I could stick up primarily for myself and just as importantly for the lads in my team, I think thats why I got picked.

Haven't played 11 a side or five a side for 30 years or more.

I absolutely loved playing and thats why I scream at these lazy bastards that play for us, from time to time, they don't realise they are so lucky.....rant over.

Apologies to the fragile folks that sit around me at the game, I'm sorry for these outbursts.

I played at school, youth club, and adult District/County (workwise) level.

Was shit at football myself, too lazy and couldn't be bothered most of the time. Worst part is having to listen to my mates on a night out reminiscing about how good they were at football when we were younger, and how they all 'could've made it' if they had just stuck at it. All nonsense of course, they were just as shit as me.

I'm terrible. It pains me to see young players throwing their careers away for a variety of reasons. I'd have given anything to be a professional. Imagine being a cult hero at Hartlepool United. Club captain for 8 seasons or something. The honour!

I was once touted as the new Duncan Edwards and gave up on my real dream of representing England at Gurning. Turns out I was a bit shit.

Right winger from primary to secondary. We had two teams in each year but I only ever managed to play for the second teams.Still my secondary school did provide us with Alan Oakes and Glyn Pardoe.

Pardoe ,Pardoe,
He's off to Mexico
With Bell and Lee and Summerbee
Pardoe, Pardoe, Pardoe, Pardoe......

lol!

I was one of the worst footballers ever, fairly decent at rugby in a school of shit rugby players but I was far too small and slight and when I got to about 14-15 I was just bang into watching football
