Wesley (Brazilian right back)

If we have to endure Rico, Nunes or Akanji at RB much next season then we ain't winning the league. Endless more goals conceded vs pretty much anyone at the back post with little Bernie legs trying to double up to help out to no avail!
We won 6 premier leagues with Delph, Zinchenko, Ake and Gvardiol as left backs! You are underestimating what Pep can win with Rico, Nunes and Akanji as right back with a functional set up of the other 10 players!

The problem with the mistakes against that lot and then Bournemouth away in the Cup was that he seemed to slightly panic after the initial mistake and then compound it with a further mistake. I don’t think he covered himself in glory against PSG or Club Brugge either, and we also have to acknowledge that Guardiola shied away from playing him against Real Madrid and Liverpool, amongst others.
Those were 2 of his fpoorer games at RB. He got beat by Barcola for one of their goals against PSG. But play for play, he waa the better fullback on that day. Gvardiol was far worse on the left and got skinned multiple times by Doue in the first half and Dembele in the 2nd. Again, as it often happened, Gvardiol's error or should we call it poor ariel challenge gave away the 4th goal and ended any chance of a smash and grab.

The fact that we loat both games Pep pulled him for, Liverpool and Real Madrid actually proves my point that he wasn't the main problem. We lost comfortably without him.

That said, I agree that he is probably worth persisting with this season. One thing I would like to see is Nunes and Ait-Nouri starting against the Wolves in the opening fixture. This protecting players from home fane abuse (Sterling/Grealish/Nunes) reeks of timidity to me, and it’s time we put an end to it.
I am not even suggesting we MUST persist. Im just saying the pretence that anyone will be better is false. He was far better than Kyle Walker last season . And by most account, Kyle was an average RB in the league and in Italy last season.

If we can get better, cool. I support City not Nunes. I just don't buy the idea that anyone will be better. Because he is far from bad. And he improved over the length of the season.

And yes, i hate that sit X player coz he played for Z team before nonsense :(

Sorry to drift off-topic but Nunes gets way too much flak on here. Now, I admit it’s not saying a great deal but he was arguably one of our best 5 players last season.

The market for full-backs is poor and I just don’t see us signing someone like Livramento this summer.

Wesley looks like a decent prospect but he’d be a player for the future, not right now.
Yeah, it is for this reason I suspect we don't get for anybody, who is reasonably available and actually impressive?

This is why a younger up and coming player like Wesley is on the radar, but unfortunately with HG issues, this seems not possible.

How many? And how many did he create? Don't guess. Do the analysis. Then compare it to say Walker or Gvardiol.

Again, i think Nunes was overall good last season. And i expect improvements this season as a RB. I expect him to be more confident and more decisive on the ball.

Funny enough, i think his improvements should come in the things people already assume he is good at (.e. attacking.) I am less worried about him defensively. At least not in the individual sense. He is strong, determined, quick and tough in the tackle.

His tackling towards the end of the season was better than what i saw from most fullbacks. And his speed and athleticism were a net plus. Where he needed improvement was in the number of negative passing and being unsure whether to attack or keep playing safe 'pass back' football.

So many moan constantly about the goals he gave up (all 3 of them) but say very little about the number of goals he individually prevented, or those he helped score or create.

Regardless of what people think, he is a net positive to the team. We probably would have an extra FA Cup trophy had Akanji stayed injured longer and Pep made the right choice.

Nunes is a net plus to City football.
Nunes just have to stop that ONE mistake per game, otherwise he is ready to play as our RB.

nunes has turned into a scapegoat and i for one dont like it,yes hes made mistakes, josko made alot of mistakes last year also but won player of the year.

he will be playing in a better side next season with better players around him, just wish some would cut him some slack and get behind him.

I think we end up signing Wesley when the CWC ends.
Dont tell Brighton.
Hopefully Doku & Savinho will prove me wrong! Doku is great coming off the bench, Savinho....I just don't get. Good 'hit' last night though ;)
Doku on qi dominant City with Phil, Cherki and Reinjders balling everywhere else on the field will be absolutely unplayable.

The idea that you'd have to play him 1 v 1 cuz you cant afford to not cover those other 3 is a terrifying thought for any fullback.

I expect him to retire a few fullbacks before this is all said and done

I can see Doku doing to many a fullback the damage Sterling did to Aspilicueta that one year. Took him from best defensive full back in the league to retirement fodder in 1 game.

Aspilicueta never recovered from that destruction.

If Brighton want him it’s normally a sign that he is expected to improve significantly once he gets to the PL.

They signed Barco from Boca Juniors who was tipped to be the next best fullback from Argentina and he has been on loan twice now. Two clubs in the same season as well.

Wesley isn't even a regular for Flamengo.

He was so far off the pace it was scary
They are happy to take a punt
We can’t really do that, especially at right back!
