Big games for Mahrez and Torres today.
We’ve lost legs and movement from four players coming out in Bernardo Foden Jesus and Sterling, so Mahrez and Torres need to work especially hard.
Torres has looked a bit, shy(?), maybe meek(?), in the Prem when he’s played for us. He needs to show a bit more boldness in his play today as we will be relying on him. He can’t just be a luxury who we carry like he has been in other games.
Mahrez too. He’s one of the most frustrating players in the team because, at times, he can look like one of the best players in the squad, at others you don’t even know he’s on the pitch. This can be either in full games, or in patches within games. Think back to his performance against Leicester at home last season, a full game of ultimate quality in a footballer; look at the first 15 minutes last week at Arsenal, brilliant! On the other hand, he’s shown full 90minutes of nothing or, like last week after a great start, was anonymous for the last hour.
He’s shown we can’t rely on him to be one of the main men consistently despite being a quality player. He’s a better footballer than Sterling, but doesn’t have Sterling’s attitude. If only we could throw Mahrez and Sterling into the Hadron Collider!
