West Ham - post match thread

That was a strange game. We played some brilliant football in the first half and scored twice, yet I thought we made even more clear cut chances after the break. Nice to see Sterling get a couple, plus MOTM, to hush the muppets (including many on here last season) and even nicer to realise we're not yet at full strength.
Was Sergio's offside decision before or after the elbow? Just wondering whether frustration was a cause.
We should be well ahead on goal difference, I suppose we'll just have to build slowly. Onwards and upwards with Pep. PS - A clean sheet in the Prem would be nice.

That first half was simply sumptuous and like others have said, we've rarely seen better. The great thing is that we come flying out of the traps these days, instead of under Pellegrini, when we were cautious and always started so slowly. Another great thing is that we're winning the 50/50 balls this season, which we weren't last. So many other good things - Kev is getting back to full fitness, Otamendi, Stones (and then Kolarov) look imperious, Silva & Sterling are both playing incredible stuff, Nolito is such a clever player and Dinho is doing what Dinho does. Willy had a couple of iffy moments but his distribution was by-and-large impeccable, leading to us keeping possession and setting up attacks. Also he sees things quickly and acts, rather than Hart standing there and taking time to make the wrong decision. finally, how good did Nasri look when he came on. We can keep two of the the five marked for sale so I hope he's one of them.

The downside was that Zab was beaten far, far too easily for the cross that led to their goal. He's just not the player he was. Sergio is still not quite there either, despite his CL hat-trick. You can see his frustration at times. Finally, we still haven't quite eliminated that tendency to go to sleep or relax when we're a goal or two up and in all the PL games this season, we've followed the same pattern - score early, fail to kill the game, relax and allow the other team back in, then kill it at the end. I'm sure that'll improve though as Pep builds up our fitness and levels of concentration.

It was before, I think.

I think he struggled to get into the game, but certainly isn't a dirty player.

Only other time I remember him coming under scrutiny, was for that two footed lunge on the Chelsea players arse...in the semi final at Wembley I seem to recall.

What an absolute joy that 1st 45 was. And an enjoyable game of football overall, as often seems to be the case when we play WHU(L).

Meanwhile the co-ordinated campaign-style reaction to getting Sergio out of the derby is borderline sinister.

The first half of the 18's game v Liverpool on Saturday was much better so I was a little underwhelmed!

Great post that, PB - well summed up.

And I think the high-lighted bit is pertinent which a few folk seem to take issue with.

Let them suceed in getting Kun banned & I will laugh my tits of when we stuff the rags and Kelechi bags a hatrick... The TV & Radio campaign against us is geting boring now .... BT Sports, Sky, MOTD & Talk Shite can all f*ck right off - they are so desperate for Pep to fail so they can say 'we told you he wouldn't be able to do it the PL' ...

Just seen MOTD. I really dont think Serg will have anything to answer. The pundits were suprisingly tame in comments and the video was not at all conclusive to warrant a ban.

If we put two halves together like that 1st half somebody is going to get hammered (no pun intended) .... I'm only worried about crosses & set pieces when we play the rags with the size of their team now, think we could do with Vinnie for that game. In terms of open play would back us to absolutely tear them to pieces!!!
