West Ham United (A) | Post-Match Thread

Personally I couldn't believe Ake isn't fit enough to start. Zinchenko was absolutely rubbish. Almost as bad as the the Leicester game where Albrighton tore him to shreds. Luckily Vinny shoots and we forget that.

And finally Foden not getting ANY game time is criminal. Imagine Mbappe Haaland or Vinicus being dropped for a crucial game. Sterling should have been on late v tired legs.
And where the fuck was Sterling going to run into? They had everyone in the box and he’d have had no room to manoeuvre at all.

Thought it was done at HT. Great fightback. Credit to West Ham they didn't give De Bruyne a sniff. Rice just shadowed him.

So rocky at the back. For everyone bemoaning the Mahrez pen, just be glad Bowen didn't pass to Antonio when it was 2-1 and that Antonio didn't score when Ferny gave him the ball 1 on 1.

We were fortunate to get a point with a deflected goal and own goal.

How Pep didn't see that our back 4 was the wrong one I don't know. It got away with a few at Wolves and West Ham are much more effective.

Is there any way we can find another defender for Sunday? Ake for Ferny and Ake for Zinchenko would be ideal!
The EDS lads are okay .

For everyone digging out Mahrez … fuck off

Our top scorer this season (24, KDB 19, Sterling 17, Foden 14 etc.)

Started every CL game except the dead rubber second leg vs lisbon. Came off after 85 mins in madrid and team implodes. Should have scored the goal to see us through to the final.

11 prem goals from 14 starts. 8 from starting, 3 from bench. Lost once when starting which was spurs away first week and whole team was off. 11 wins (79%), 2 draws. Team have played 23 other games, won 17 (74%), drawn 4, lost 2.

Guy scores all 6 other pens this season and then misses one and its back to turning on him.

Still in our hands so get over your entitlement

This. Our penalty record WAS awful but Mahrez taking them has improved it significantly. I think I read something prior to today that our record was identical to Liverpool's this season??

Sure we've had better penalty takers in the past and may have again in the future but the hysteria around Mahrez is just not warranted.

Said it before so I'll say it again
A must score pen
Watch what Benzema did
I can't understand for the life of me why we always have to beat the keeper - fucking fuming!!
Don't talk bollocks. It's not as though he knew which way the keeper was going to dive and vice versa. If he'd stuck it down the middle and the keeper had stood his ground you'd be saying that was the wrong way to take it. Keeper got lucky and guessed right, that's how it is with pens.

We had given ourselves the insurance of allowing a fuck up, which at 2-0 down looked very needed. Once again opponents score with their only shots on target. We had 31 attempts today and when we went 2-0 down West Ham had only had 19% of the possession, but there first allowed them to park two banks of four and drop a forward onto Rodri. whilst still having an outball to Antonnio. Two great finishes from Bowen and I feared the worst, I am loathe to criticise Eddy because he is integral to how we play, but he rarely makes match saving/winning saves.. We looked a shadow of the side that played so well at Wolves. Rice was superb and nullified Kev, who looked a little jaded after his midweek efforts.

In 52 PL games we had never won when being behind 2-0 at half time, in fact we had lost 51 of them and we looked dead and buried, so it is a real testament to the sides character that even in adversity we got a point out of the game and kept the title solely in our hands. Second half i thought Jack was superb, and Jesus ran himself into the ground. Of course talk will be about a missed penalty, but it was a saved penalty and a good save at that,
If you had said to me last weekend we would take 4 points from games against Wolves and West Ham i would have snatched your hands off for them.

As for why not play Ake, playing two left sided centre halves is very rare, yeo right sided is more common as there are more right footed players and I thought the decision to play Ferna was brave as Antonnio invariably goes on the outside in the inside left channel and Ferna coped pretty well with him.

We now have a week to regroup, Liverpool have to play in midweek, as do Villa, so we can get some rest into the legs and hopefully start refreshed and ready to go against Villa.

Nearly there City, although i expect a tense final day and a week of extraordinary media hype around Gerrard, thank fuck I am off to Portugal tomorrow.

Certainly wouldn’t use the word lucky, goals were fortunate, you’d argue we was unfortunate in many other situations. Maybe the fact that we conceded 2 shots on target which resulted in goals yet again. I’d call that fortunate as that doesn’t happen often, other than against us. We are a pen save away from winning it.
